Baffling if true. I just assumed from Walters' comments last summer he'd quietly been given an extra year at some point.

If this is true, I'm surprised we've given Crouch a 2 year deal before SJW.

I think Hughes might be wrong tbh! But he doesn't seem arsed, which is where I am. It is puzzling if he's the 30+ year old attacker we allow to leave and not Wingie though.

Does Pulis have a John in the first team squad to bawl at? If not he's a goner.

Weird one.

On the surface, there's no reason at all why we should be offering Whelan and Crouch one and not him?
And no reason why he'd be less open to signing than them, given he seems to be as well thought of and as well-used as anyone by Hughes.
Odd that this hasn't even been raised as an issue anywhere, yet we've had weekly updates on Whelan and Crouch.
Puzzling to say the least.

Wouldn't totally rule that out - Walters seemed convinced he had 2 yrs left as of June 2014. I'd be surprised if Hughes was unaware of which of his most-used players are approaching the end of their contract though? Surely Walters' agent would be hammering the door down to get around the table if he was oblivious to it?

Especially since he's opted for Walters over Crouch up front in the past couple of games. If Crouch can get a two year contract and not even get a start in the absence of Diouf, you'd imagine Jon will get one/deserves one. He's been a massive player for us this year. I can't see him leaving.

At the end of the day we can not resign every 30 plus player as we need to make room in the squad for new younger signings. if we are looking to bring more forward players in it makes sense to let him go especially at 32. he has had a good run recently but is that likely to continue as he rely s on his energy levels which will surly drop.

Lets hope that The Sentinel quote on 28 May IS THE ACCURATE ONE In comments reported by the Stoke Sentinel, Walters is quoted as saying: "I've got two years left on my contract and I want to be playing. In the first link

Hughes has repeatedly said how important SJW is, hasn't he? Can't see a deal not being done if it is required, but equally I would be surprised if his contract does expire this year as there would have been more talk about it.

Looking at the video (about 12 mins 30 secs in) I'm still not convinced he's out of contract this summer.
It' an Irish journalist who asks the question and frames it as if he's out of contract then, and Hughes doesn't really volunteer any information on it, apart from saying he's doing well

Nice reaction from him when he's read the back page of tomorrow's Oatcake suggesting the board should "find out what he wants and double it" in his contract negotiations (15 mins 25 secs in)

It was put in the question that Walters' contract runs out in the summer so Hughes might have been on the spot. It runs to the end of next season.

Nort particularly bothered to be honest. If we buy another striker and winger then he's surplus to requirements.
He's not the best in any position and is only getting game time now while we've got injuries or missing players.
