What's the difference between a long ball and a cross pitch 50 yard pass? Depends how popular you are. I can bet most of those long balls Manchester United played were called a brilliant cross field passes.

What's the difference between a long ball and a cross pitch 50 yard pass? As Peter Coates so wisely said - what matters is not whether it's a long ball or a short ball, but whether it's a good ball.

Long ball football generally is pretty shit though. Lets not kid ourselves.

What's the difference between a long ball and a cross pitch 50 yard pass? The first is Stoke. The second Man Ure. Simple.

It makes no difference whether we are 1st or 20th in these ratings - it's the results that count
Play to your strengths

Makes no difference. They'll stilll say we're a long ball, direct team.
We can't score from set pieces for shit. Can't defend the damn things for toffee either. The lazy pundits will still label us with inaccurate arse gravy though.
"For me Clive, Stoke's best chance of getting a result today is from a corner or free kick. They're so dangerous from set pieces with all their height. They launch so many long balls into the mixer and make it very difficult for teams, in and around the box."

Wow...that is some turnaround in my opinion.
Just shows what a drastic change there has been in the style of our play.

You get idiots like Jamie Carragher saying Stoke haven't really changed their style then spunks uncontrollably when going on about Pulis and what a great manager he is now all of a sudden!

What's the difference between a long ball and a cross pitch 50 yard pass?
Nothing. The difference is when it's a long punt 'into the mixer'. Percentage football, playing for throws - that's the blight on the game..

There's long ball and there's long ball
Endlessly Lumping into channels with the sole intention to get a set piece is long ball but isn't the same as a 50 yard pass
The two cannot be compared

Gets me how its sneered on as if it's some sort of sin that's been committed. Van Gaal was wounded by Fat Sam's long ball united jibe such that he handed out a dossier to the press conference proving West Ham were more long ball. Anything but be tarnished with the crime of daring to play long ball.
