Remember hearing this in the 70 s would love it to have a return.
One person would quietly sing the verse and then the whole lot sing the chorus.
Once upon a time there was a tavern Where we used to raise a glass or two Remember how we laughed away the hours Think of all the great things we would do
Those were the days my friend We thought they'd never end We'd sing and dance forever and a day We'd live the life we choose We'd fight and never lose For we were young and sure to have our way. La la la la...

If I remember right, the chorus wasn't la la la but
"Die die die die West Ham, Die die die die West Ham" (or whoever we were playing at the time)

Also, was it not 'we took the Stretford End' instead of 'We thought they'd never end'..........

There are loads od old chants like that which should get an airing again, it's not like were blessed with new ones? I notice 'the shit' fans have resurrected a few classic 70's chants. I'd love to hear some of the oldies like 'Molly Malone', Tiptoe through the Boothen etc

Difficult to rush that one. The bread song last night sounded terrible

Thought one verse at least began like this:
Those were the days my friend We took the Stretford End We took the Holt, we took the North Bank too ...
