Anyone see it tonight. ...the first part. ?
Just managed to see the last five minutes with Richard Hammond driving a car with a cow strapped to the roof.
Reminded me of my journeys back from 'The Place in Hanley ....

Saw it tonite love top gear. i dont watch much tv alot of shit on. But for an hour when the series is on it makes me laugh. It was good but i do have to admit with the fall out over the number plate Top Gear is getting more and more staged. I cant help but enjoy it though. A CV2 following them tonite as well.

The numberplate wasn't staged, they genuinely had to flee the country, those cars are probably burnt out shells now.

Granted it does look funny, but surely they wouldn't be daft enough to intentionally do that, they'd know the sort of reaction it'd get.

Does anybody really honestly think that they didn't deliberately pick that number plate for the car ......H982 FKL .....ffs of course they did, it's what they are good at. Just look at their previous specials to see the wind ups and dares. Vietnam was probably the best with many incidents that could have upset the locals but didn't appear to.

Part 2 is on tonight (Sunday) that's when it gets interesting. Given that they were driving round the port that the Belgrano left extracting the urine it's hardly surprising that it provoked a reaction (Groan).

Just look at the first proper wind up. The USA Special where in Alamaba they put slogans on each others cars and the locals didnt take kindly to it.

It's puerile, staged escapism targeted at blokes of a certain age and that is exactly why I love it !!
Might be time for a slight format change but long may it continue

Might be time for a slight format change but long may it continue How would you change it then? id probably show more cars for the everyday man. However i admit i love seeing some of thse supercars. Some of my favourite sketches and they dont do enough of them are the ones where they buy cheap cars and have to get from somewhere to another place in britain. Like when they did 70's supercars for less than 10,000. Watching that was hallerious fun.

Maybe less of the caravan trashing and a out & out "look how fast this is" round the track - I'm into 4x4s and would like them to do more around this. Would have loved this Argie trip to have been in an old Mk 1 Landrover, a 70s Toyota and one of them American monstrosities..... Also like to see it move to Sky & shake off the nanny BBC but I think they bought it out from JC a while back..... Star in an ordianry priced car needs to go - like the guest spot but get them doing something else.....changing a wheel on an Astra maybe !

The Beeb make too much money selling the show to allow that to happen

You know what you're watching is all contrived bollocks, but that doesn't actually make it any less amusing. Have to say though, I thought last night's was a bit slow and thin on laughs, they weren't joking when they said "we'll need to spin this out a bit". It'll probably pick up in the second part I imagine.

Like we say staged but good. I mean eating beaver come on. If some Argentines feel that strongly then they weren't just going to let it happen. That did look very real and I bet for the crew it was quite scary but Hammon May Clarkson would never be put in danger. The show only has its self to blame over that you have to agree.

Same format , 3 crap cars , same stupid jokes , they did this in several different locations over recent years . Found this show tonight very predictable . I do like the programme though

Quite boring and predictable like others have intimated. The obvious appeal being to its financial success for the Beeb. If this success is to continue then more inventive subject matter and plots need to be carefully considered. This 'special' was a car crash of epic proportions.

The worst 'special' so far for me - I thought the Butch Cassidy style ending was a bit poor.
How did Clarkson, May and Hammond leave Argentina? Obviously the crewe took the cars but were they airlifted or something?

I wouldn't put it past them to have planned / staged the whole lot although did seem a bit extreme and the damage to the crew's Discoveries very real..
Like I said above, format needs a lick of paint but still very good brain in neutral entertainment for all us petrol heads of a certain age

I personally think that a more constructive informative format is the way to go. Perhaps using comparable 4 wheel drives for the purpose they were intended or perhaps a fiat panda 4x4 up against a Suzuki Jimny for example. You can still make it humorous.

If it hadn't have kicked off in the second ep bugger all would have happened at all, they need some fresh ideas.
