With this and the rumour of interest in the Brentford striker, is Hughes himself accepting that the Diouf signing is not going to work out.

We will only have crouch and Walters once Diouf goes to the ACN. Happy to hear we are looking to sign a striker its essential IMO

Happy to hear we are looking to sign a striker its essential IMO Diouf will still be our player, Arnautovic is a striker and in Bojan we have one of the most naturally gifted strikers of his generation. Not that I would knock the signing mind, just the math ;-)

Still adjusting to the Prem imo I don't accept that we would bid the money being rumoured to cover someone who is off to the ACN for a few weeks. And I know the owners wouldn't.

We've only got Crouch and Diouf (and Odemwingie) in the shake-up there - and two of them are very nearly 34 and both out of contract in the summer and the jury's very much out on the other being able to play that particular role(despite him being under contract for another 3 and a half years on supposedly mega money)

He isn't a number 9 he is more a winger and would play either wide left or wide right in our formation!

I remember having the same debate weeks ago. We have a good team in there somewhere, for me we need to stick our proven top class goalscorer up front and build the team/system around him.

We haven't got enough players who can play on the left of a front 3 for my liking....
However, is he left footed? That'd be nice.

We need a proper alternative to Crouch though (and, who knows, Crouch may be keen to move to a London club if something happens over the next month). It looks like he thought Diouf could handle the demands of playing yp front on his own - and we haven't seen much to back that up yet, and he keeps having to cling to his Crouch safety blanket.

Yes and I find it astonishing, given Hughes pedigree, that he could call it so wrong on a long term strike target.

A good scoring record in the bundeglisa while mainly playing up front on your own. He seemed like the ideal player for us.

Reminds me a bit of Riviere who we chased for ages in Ligue 1. I dont think hes scored a goal for Newcastle yet despite being bigged up.
Hughes can normally spot a striker but im getting a bit concerned

(s). Crouch and Diouf. Bojan isn't a centre forward, not in this league anyway. Neither is Walters. Lol (s) that's a little pedantic, I have always used the North American spelling. Bojan's goalscoring record speaks for itself, and if Walter's isn't a striker then I don't know what he is. But I am talking about strikers, and you are referencing the centre forward, so you will probably pull me up on that as well;-) However, I think we could be at crossed purposes, as I have posted previous, the players Hughes has signed don't seem to fit his system.
