By far the best team I've seen for a good while at The Brit. I wouldn't be too despondent with being second best against a very good display from an excellent side.
The positives: -
* Ryan Shawcross - an absolutely first class performance at the back. His duel with Costa was a joy to watch. I think he actually won every single header he went for. He had a proper good battle with a centre forward who has given a torrid time to many other defenders in the league. You could tell he (Costa) didn't enjoy his outing today!
* Bojan - different gravy in the middle of our front 3. Different class this lad. Very promising display again.
Negatives
* Bardsley seemed out of his depth. Poor distribution and a shocking challenge on Hazard (although that did rile the crowd into the loudest we've been for a few years so perhaps, ironically, a tad of credit for that hatchet of a challenge.)
* Diouf's first touch is absolutely woeful. More and more concerned with him by the day. I was giving him credit not too long ago for his pace and power bringing a different dimension to our play but he looks less like a footballer with every passing performance.
Overall, outplayed and outsmarted by a better team. We've got to dust ourselves down and go again at Goodison.

Matic put in the best performance against us since Scholes all those years ago.

No complaints from me for tonights result. I think they're the most confident team I have ever seen. If we had sneaked a goal tonight (Big IF!), they looked well capable of stepping up and getting another. we let ourselves down with sloppy passing but they were far superior.

agree. Diouf sadly is not going to be good enough, He has no technical ability at all. We need big investment in a central striker, winger and centre back. Maybe a right back too given bardsleys recent performances

They are definitely vulnerable. We also played into their hands with crouch up front - the sort of player terry loves to play against

They won't just win it, they'll win it by a mile.
I wonder if they're the best team to play at The Brit. Ferguson's Man Utd teams usually brushed us aside with similar efficiency, I suppose.

I guess they will because they are able to play in such a cynical way when needed. This is a big difference to for instance Arsenal that only seem able to play in one way.

Think Diouf is as much a confidence thing. When you're cinfidence is up you suddenly become a great striker.

I've quite liked diouf for his work rate but he looked 2nd rate tonight, the ball just bounces off him. agree too with the signings we need. we have wingers to come back from injury but we defo need a another solid centre half. muniesa is a very accomplished player, someone with his ability and a foot taller, with strength would be ideal. and worth about 25 million :-)

They were very efficient but I was expecting more from them. I think that had more to do with how lame we were going forward, we gave them very little to think about and they never had to get out of second gear after scoring so early. Defensively they were solid and extremely well organised but considering the talent they have they were nowt special going forward.

Not saying we should have got anything out of the game only that we could.

The way MH wants us to play we have to have pace. Sadly injuries to Odom and Moses have derailed us. A front 4 of Odom, Bojan, Moses and Diouf I think was MHs first choice and I'm sure would cause lots of problems. Sadly Walters, Bojan, Arno and Crouch just doesn't scare defences.

They are a really good side who I think weren't 'on it' for long periods tonight but we had too many players not on song tonight to take advantage.

100% Chelsea will walk this league I reckon if Hughes had the money to spend that they have, then we'd probably be in with a good shout to win the league. They and City and United before them have bought their league titles. They paid more per player, with just the odd homegrown, than we paid for our whole team and salary wise they're on different planets. My beef won't go away, those with the big money ( Arsenal, Man City, Man Utd, Chelsea, Liverpool, Spurs) are always going to out perform (with odd exceptions) and win the league and fill 6 of the top 7 or 8 positions. We need spend/salary caps to ever have a level playing field. That said, I thought Chelsea were quality, albeit they moan like babies at every opportunity and any excuse.

Either way we have him for 4 long years so I guess we'd better get used to him.

On the bright side I suppose it's nowhere near £100M spunked. Edit - oh and err £55K a week supposedly as was posted on here.

When they are up against it, the likes of Mourinho and Terry not only stand up, not only take it on the chin but often come out on top. They hold no fear of coming to Stoke at all and after two poor results for them would be desperate to get back on track.
You look at the squad they have, even the bench, and even if they're only at 75%, we've got to be right on top form; and a goal after just 2 minutes pretty much sets them up for the whole game.
It's also exactly the reason why Arsenal won't come close to winning the title with their current regime.

Very, very good team.
The only disappointment with them Is the constant surrounding of the ref. How Terry doesn't get booked for running 60 yards to complain to the ref every time is beyond me .
