I don't think Ryan will go to Roma and in my opinion he shouldn't, you can count on one hand the British players or managers who have done really well abroad, especially in Italy.
It's also my view that he should stay at Stoke, where virtually everything is going for him and he is hugely popular.
Regarding the England team he may not be selected, but I don't think that is because he is a Stoke player.
Money is a great issue in football today and maybe he will be tempted by an offer from a top PL club, but as of yet that has not happened.
I think he will stay at Stoke and that will be good for all concerned.

People who think he wouldn't be tempted by a move to Rome, to play for a league challenging side and have a chance of proving himself in the champion's league are surely not thinking about it enough? I would love him to stay, but if I was his agent I would be pushing this through. He either a) loves it and has an amazing long spell career in Italy, b) does so well that he moves to a big English club or c) does not do well at all, so comes back to Stoke for a massively reduced fee having only missed out on two or three seasons of mid table finishes. Even if Stoke got relegated he'd get a move to a recently promoted Premier League side. The downsides of this move failing are relatively small compared to the massive possible upsides. The only real positives are the fact it's the Sun (which means it could be completely made up) and if it is true, at least we'd be able to afford somebody experienced and half decent to come in and hold Muniesa's hand for a season or two while also helping out the bank balance. I don't think anybody wants Ryan to go, but we'd be a pretty big collection of shithouses if we didn't wish him well on this. He's a got a settled young family in Cheshire and seems to me like someone who if he could wouldn't move out of that situation unless it was a great offer. I don't think Roma is that offer. I still have a feeling he'll only leave for Man United.

Great chance in qualifying for champions league football thus therefore enabling him the chance to show what he can do which in turn could well get him into the England squad that he craves.

However I think he knows inside he could start at Man Utd. If they signed him...

Having just seen Shawcross' interview on Soccer Saturday, proper giving it Arsenal, he inna going anywhere, he fucking loves us!
EDIT :
For anyone who didn't see it the reporter asked him about our game against them the other week, Shawcross replied with how we should have been 4-0 up then we'd have made it more, & how he loves the games 'cos they have a hositle atmosphere. The reporter then asked him if he can enjoy the games while they're taking place or only looking back on them, to which Shawcross said "Oh yeah you can enjoy it against Arsenal, they don't like us & we don't like them!"
Goarn Ryan!

Sorry hadnt seen this - Ive just said as much on another thread. This isnt a bloke who is going to swan off around Europe to play his football. It will be either staying with us or going to one of the local big boys.

I think this could happen. Maybe not in January but in the summer certainly. Shawcross has earned the right to play for a big club and if it were to happen, I would prefer a team outside of the prem. Roma are a big club and I think Ryan would do well there. Because of it's pace you may see more sophistication from the bloke, as well as his quality defending.

Roma aren't even guaranteed champions league football, juve maybe but roma they are a bang average team. But a HUGE club Graham Souness always said that if anybody gets a chance to play for Roma they should grasp it as they are the biggest club in Italy That of course is open to discussion

The fact that Ryan is now 27 and has only won one England cap makes me think no major English club will seek to buy him, unless the fee was relatively attractive. If however he was chosen to play for England and did well that might change things dramatically, but there is currently no sign of that happening.
The odds are he will be a Stoke player for a few years yet, which is good news.

Shawcross and Vlad Chiriches from tottenham.. I quit reading after the later. Lazy journalism. Unless Roma drops £30 million and offers Romagnoli I sincerely doubt this.
