Nath was one of my best and closest friends throughout High School and although we lost touch after that, as you do with so many people after school, we regained contact when he moved into to a house opposite my Mum's. Have seen him quite a bit since, not in a socialising way just when passing, and he was always with the family pushing the pram and obviously loved being a part of that.
Massive Stoke fan and always had been, knew what he was talking about with football as well, and will be a true loss to those who knew him.
Still in major shock, even more so as I only saw him a couple of days before hand.
Truly tragic
RIP matey

I knew Nathan because we worked for the same funeral company but at different locations. Very likeable lad, always willing to help and thought of highly by colleagues in Staffs and Cheshire. God willing his wife pulls through. Come Monday we have to win for him.

The very, very, very least we can do.....we do need to let the Chelsea supporters know as well as we don't want the reaction that previous away followers have wondered what was going on and tainted the respect....Rest in Peace.......awful news for his family...

Apologies if this has been mentioned already, but thought it was worth posting: Roma did an amazing thing recently after father and son Roma fans were killed in an scooter accident. The players warmed up with t-shirts with them printed on it. Obviously, slightly different circumstances as it was a scooter accident coming home from a Roma game. But still an amazing gesture and if replicated by Stoke would just show what a great community club Stoke is and is a gesture of support to these poor kids who've had their lives tragically turned upside down. A minute's applause as I've seen mentioned is great respect of course, but that's very much a fan organised thing isn't it? I guess this is a club gesture, to show they are well and truly part of the community. Gutted for the Smallwood family and friends.

Lovely gesture it must be said, but I think when you do something like this for one person in particular then it sets a benchmark... You can't pick and choose who we respect like this because it can come across as valuing one life more than another etc.

You can't pick and choose who we respect like this because it can come across as valuing one life more than another etc. I have to agree with this sentiment. I am not in favour of these kind of tributes. I prefer that we all honour our loved ones once a year at the Xmas/New Year home game similar to Man City. Then you are paying equal tribute to everyone who has passed away during the year and remembering loved ones from previous years as well. The problem with trying to organise this type of one off tribute is that it can fall a bit flat if not coordinated properly. Word of mouth or posting on The Oatcake may not be enough. You may need flyers at every turnstile, tannoy and video screen reminders before the game etc. RIP to the young man and hopefully his wife will pull through to help their children come to terms with the loss of their Dad. It must be an incredibly stressful time for all of their family members. A truly horrible thing to happen at any time but so close to Xmas just makes the situation even more upsetting I imagine.

Yeah, I see your points. I guess Roma must have considered it too, but decided to go with it but I see where you're coming from. regarding the arrangement of it, it wouldn't take any. The club would arrange something like that. The only arranging I guess would be asking the family's permission to do it and getting an appropriate image from them. The rest would be pretty easy for the club. Still I see where your coming from. Maybe the important difference here is that the poor father n son Roma fans were actually coming home from a Roma game on a scooter when they were killed. So perhaps the club felt that had Roma not been playing that night, they wouldn't have been on the scooter coming home etc.. Anyway, tragic for the family. Hope the show of support from fans and anything the club do too is some small comfort for them.
