I was thinking about this the other day. Wenger isn't exactly Mr Popular at White Hart Lane or Old Trafford, and Birmingham supporters 'did the Wenger' years before we did, but he has never resorted to making snarky comments about Tottenham supporters or hiding in his dugout all game. In fact, at Old Trafford he quite routinely makes a bit of a spectacle of himself without seeming too concerned about the response of the home supporters. In fact, if Wenger was sent to the stands at Stoke, I imagine he'd get a bit worse than this display of genteel indifference: You also don't get him saying things like this after a visit to any other ground in the country: www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17883439On top of that, you can throw in Man City (we won't mention their manager on that day) crumpling under the hostility after Delap got sent off (indeed, shortly after he was appointed Hughes said something about how he's experienced the atmosphere spilling out of the stands and affecting the opposition before - I wonder what he was talking about!), Tottenham's manager saying he'd never experienced anything like the atmosphere last season, Danny Rose getting so wound up that he had to be substituted, John Terry feeling the need to run up to the away end at Stamford Bridge slapping his captain's armband, Cristiano Ronaldo taking ten minutes out of a game at Old Trafford to gesture at and complain about our supporters and probably a hundred other things that I've forgotten. So are we the most abusive and intimidating lot in the league?

Definitely When we feel hard done by (rightly or wrongly) we are a fucking evil bunch of bastards who don't listen to reason and don't give a shit who we offend. The only draw back is, we don't do it every week

Wenger said "every face in the crowd can be isolated" I'm sure they can Mr R Sole-Vanker. BUT what about the players on the pitch? The swearing and the insults to their fellow pro's. We are a rugby side and we are more disiplined on the pitch than the whinging toe rags that you manage. Start on the pitch. Get players sin binned. Then move to the terraces and maybe mass ejections, see what this does to the beautiful game

The barracking of Danny Rose last season was top-notch. I think once you step over that touchline then you are fair game. As long as it doesnt boil over to running on the pitch a la QPR goalie or racist chants then no issue for me....oh, and if a player gives it back, then fair play as well.

It's because were probably the least gloryhunting fans around, coupled with the brit and it's predecessor always being known as a tough place to get points. Added with, the fans knowing the game in and out (everyone is into the game) and we call out refs and our players on their shit just as much as theirs. I never get the same sense at a big club side, half the tits are on their twitter accounts during the match.

Ashley Cole was always good for a bit of banter. To be fair to him he did lap it up though

There is always a risk that some players feed on the abuse, but if you get a slightly weaker character then they can become quite intimidated by constant booing and (non racist, homophobic etc) abuse

There should be a notice in the visiting team dressing room.....
"Welcome to Britannia Stadium home of Stoke City Football Club and their psycho fans. Be afraid, be very afraid.... you are about to be verbally decimated."

Back in the yonks ago I found elland Road to be the most intimidating away ground. More than Millwall or WHU.

There's not much competition, the Everton ground for instance on Monday was eerily quiet.

My uni mate 'reckons me and my pals have much louder voices than anyone he's heard, perhaps we're all just talking to each other.
Seriously though, I've never heard anything like that Man City game when Delap got sent off. Give me that sheer noise over any of that orchestrated European shit any day of the week. And the cheer to lift the players around the 80 minute mark was spine tingling.

We're like an old man sitting in his front room at the moment. The kids outside keep knocking the ball over the hedge and find a way of getting it back. After about an hour of this behaviour ,the old man loses his rag and comes running out of the house shaking his fist shouting " get down your own end".

Love it, I used to work with people from all around the country who used to travel to Stoke for training etc, most used to comment on the aggressive nature of the locals, lucky for them they never saw us when we were proper wound up, we are Stoke that is the way we have been moulded over the years.

I think footie fans all over will look for a "weakness" in the opposition and try to exploit it...maybe we are just better at it than most!
