Blimey. I think that one can be filed under "something's gone tits-up here".
Seems a shame really. Perhaps you get egos in football no matter what level you're at.

It's difficult to understand from this statement what will be the consequences of this?
It's a fragile world in those leagues!

The problem with Norton was it was owned by the N.C.B,whos sports and social arm is CISWO,NOT THE NUM.The people who are on these committee's. are no different than the committees of the working mens clubs. But without the cash that CISWO plough into these community grounds a lot would just overgrow. The ground at Florence colliery is owned by the same organisation.

A very sad state of affairs. I remember watching Gary Sobers play cricket there in the 1960s. Sentinel story

Charlie Griffiths was the most frightening thing I ever saw on a cricket pitch. Those were exciting times in North Staffs.

Dennis Vickers is my old PE teacher-he says things aren't so cut and dried as the article suggests.

I reckon we should have a friendly against them next year to generate some money like we do Newcastle Town.

Interesting. What part of the set up would manage the FA Cup winnings? They made enough to run the club for the next few seasons if looked after.

One set of trustees if set against the others.
One of the old guard is Dennis Vickers-who I am in contact with.
If you know something different then why don't you post it?

Its all news to me so I know nothing and I certainly didn't intend to give any impression that I did. I do however know something of the people mentioned. It will be interesting to see the alternative view I guess. There is often two sides to stories like this. It seems a shame when things seemed to be going so well.

The Cricket club has also gone with Norton United FC! A sad, sad day. I've played at Norton CC since I was 13 (admittedly not for the last 2 yrs) and will now need to find another CC to while away Saturday afternoons with my 6yr old daughter. She had just learned to bowl over-arm as well....the great Brian Gessner coaching her on the boundary ropes while we walked around. As said, a sad, sad day.

Haha. Either the trustees have been stitched up by CISWO or they're just tossers.

i have no idea what the regulations say with regard to the use of the facilites. Does the land have to be used for sport and recreation or can CISWO sell it to a property developer for housing? One thing is for sure. Without the football club and the cricket club I doubt you will get the foot fall to make the social club profitable. I am inclined to think the cricket club has acted in haste. It's a good thing to support the football club if you think they have been treated unfairly but where will the cricket club play next season? It will be a lot easier for the football club to find an alternative venue. They need a smaller land area and they can generate revenue through the gate. The cricket club may well be left high and dry hoping for a generous benefactor to empty his savings into the club. Not sure that is going to happen around Smallthorne. I am not convinced that the cricket club and the football club will be sharing the same facilities next year. Although, that may never have been their intention anyway. Perhaps the cricket club would have been better staying put and trying to fight the devil from within. I don't know enough about the politics to say whether this is just wishful thinking. If the cricket clubs decision was taken to try and force the CISWO to back down then it doesn't seem to have worked just yet. Plenty of time for egos to settle down and sensible discussions to take place but maybe the talking is all played out? If the land can be used for commercial development then maybe that was the intention all along. Antagonise the football club to force them to leave and then sell the land off for housing. Looking at it from afar it looks like the CISWO trustees couldn't give a fig for the local community. Are the trustees local themselves or do they administer these facilities from their offices up that London way?

The 5 trustees are local, one is the former groundsman?? 3 new trustees appointed in April are associated with 2 football teams that use the main pitch. Thats what makes no sense....it seems as though, (allegdly), they just want to get rid of NUFC for some strange reason? And the cricket club have felt that they need to make a stand with the footy club. Its been rumbling on for 6 months, its not a kneejerk decision. Its just all come to a head this last week as CISWO have re-iterated that they agree with the trustees. Culminating in all the junior teams run under the NUFC banner being told by letter that they are no longer allowed to play there. All the locks have been changed by one of the trustees so that NUFC cannot get into the club to get their kit and equipment! It is a very, very stupid situation that seems to have been created by 5 trustees on a power trip (allegedly).
