I think it was just the paddock, Sid. Although there could very well have been a few up in the stand as well. You're probably right,my memory is shot to shit these days. It was a strange decision either way to give them so many tickets. It made us look like small time mugs which was symptomatic of the club under Peter Coates Mark 1.

PANTHERS, PANTHERS, PANTHERS...The massed ranks of 6000 Stokies sang at Barnsley!!!! FA Cup replay 1990ish. I remember this game because I very nearly got crushed to death (When the police did an Hillsborough and opened the gates to relieve the crush) and subsequently, nearly drowned in a sea of piss inside the Gents "Toilets".

Man City had the whole of the Butler St Stand. that was the first match I attended where I wasn't in the Butler St. We had the whole of the Stoke End - I think they may have had the family stand / corner between the Stoke end and Butler st as well.

Christmas 1988, my well-meaning grandmother bought me a pink panther, except it wasn't inflatable, it was a cuddly toy. Taking it to the game was one of the most humiliating experiences of my life.
Daft now I look back at it.

Think they threw a banana at Juda and he ate it and through the skin back at them, i also think a certain Ian Scott scored for citeh and didn't Bamber and Butler make their debut's on that day? Yes they did. We gave Man City the whole of the Butler Street Stand and Paddock (pre exec boxes) and the Stoke End paddock so there was at least as many of their fans as there was Stoke. Surely the only time this has ever happened?? I have a vague recollection of Everton being given a large percentage of the ground in one of their rare 'successful' seasons. They certainly outnumbered the Stoke fans that day :-( GD

Please no to a return of the pink panther (no pun intended), they were cringeworthy at best. But those Manchester City fans brought all sorts of inflatables that day. I can remember seeing a paddling pool and an inflatable Newcastle Brown bottle in the Butler Street Paddock that particular Boxing Day. I know I'd had a few drinks but I'm sure that I saw a fried egg inflatable! Those were the very early days of the Oatcake Fanzine too. Unsure whether my memory is failing me but didn't loads of Stokies go to the away fixture at Maine Road later on in the season in fancy dress? And I am certain that photo's of the Stoke following that day were displayed in the window of the old club shop or ticket office. (Also sure that a member of The Oatcake editorial team was on the cover of the fanzine in fancy dress.)

Maskery lamped Sheedy & got away with it we got relegated that day.

Some of my first memories of stoke was the pink panthers but I have no idea why we had them. Anybody care to fill me in? ...I dust this off once every few years... ... Man City were indeed the first on the scene with inflatable mascots - Bananas (due to their player Imre Varadi - yes, tenuous I know), in their case. So seeing how colourful it looked when Man City took over the entire Butler Street Paddock, our then Club Shop manager - Paul Gerkin I think - got on the phone to a local supplier (are Seaside Supplies still going?): "What have you got?" was the enquiry - "errm - dolphins, mickey mouses, rubber rings and errm - some Pink Panthers" came the reply (ish). So PG opted for the Pink Panthers - a few dozen - which sold out straight away when they went on sale in the shop at the back of the Stoke End stand. So he ordered several hundred (maybe thousands) more, and somehow managed to get them in Stoke kits - and the rest is history.
