I would think some people buy a season ticket so they don't miss out on the big games, but if the ground capacity was made larger would they then think there will be more tickets available so I can now pick and chose so I no need to purchase a season ticket.I think if the ground extension does happen we will get bigger attendances for between 5-6 games and lower for the rest, so we could end up with less income. And it will all be down to which league were in.

Don't think we are going to get one soon, we are having a pitch enlargement and new dugouts though.

I don't think that an extension would hit crowd attendances, as long as the builders were careful.

Can see what you mean and wondered about that myself. However, I'm sure that if we extended only minimally, (two corners at most) it won't adversely affect Attendances,
The problem comes, with over-ambition, as at Sunderland, which looks dreadful and certainly must cut down on Sc's (season cards) but not at Derby, etc.

I've heard about these minimal extensions. My wife says that she is against it.

More people would want to sit in the new section for novelty reasons across the first season it's in place. Also with improved facilities and bigger concourse, even once the novelty wears off it would probably still be the busiest section of the ground.

I wouldn't like to see it. I think we are pretty much max'ed out home attendance wise so it would just mean more empty plastic seats which would piss all over what atmosphere remains. See Blackburn and Bolton in their final Prem seasons as examples of clubs with 25,000 fans rattling around in 30,000 plus seat stadiums. It ain't a pretty sight

I don't believe that we are maxed out but even if we were we need to be ambitious and expand our fan base. We can't do that currently.

It must be an almost impossible task to expand the fan base significantly when any unsold seats for most games (and especially the fairly popular games) are mostly dotted around as single seats often near the front of each stand.
I bet the majority of "new" customers, who are potentially new fans, come with a friend (or friends) or relations - certainly the youngsters do. At the moment the chances of being able to sit with them as a group are slim for most games.
It is a no brainer that if we want to expand the fan base we have to increase the capacity - the sensible (and financially safest) way to do it is to do it one corner at a time.

Safest but in the long term maybe not the cheapest. 2 for the price of 1 and all that.

The problem I have with this new fan base out there,is I don't think people want to attend live matches due to the amount of free TV coverage. This is also why our away support is down. The best way forward for all clubs if all the illegal streams and satellite stations were turned of.I no this would upset some people but if all these who only watch us in the pub and don't contribute to the clubs coffers ,could only watch us live then we could expand.

the same old nonsense arguments being trotted out to support us NOT having a ground extension.
The fact is that when you are supporter that doesn't have a season ticket quite often you are looking to get a few seats together. That is near impossible because the only seats that are free are scattered around.
We need a couple of thousand seats in one of those corners for starters then the likes of me could come to more games. The lack of seats available for each game is preventing me from attending games. It is bollocks to say we don't need anymore, we nearly sell out most of the time. If stoke had a 3000 capacity section in a corner which was reasonably priced 'pay on the day' then we would get 30000 plus in a lot of games.
we do need more seats, no doubt.

I agree with all of that - but I should point out that (without standing areas being made legal again) none of our corners will hold 3,000. The big screen corner (which has planning permission) will hold 1,800 and the wing corners of the main stand will hold 2,500 ish each - a bit less for the corner with the vehicle entrance.

We would have the same issue. The idea that there is some great latent pent up demand (among our fans) for tickets if only a we had a few thousand more seats is frankly laughable. I don't doubt if we filled in a corner and ear marked it for away fans when the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool were in town we could fill it 4 or 5 times a season but I doubt the police would be too keen.

Fair enough. I was for some reason under the impression that both held about 27000. I still think if we want to expand our supporter base, we need to extend the ground. I see your point about there not exactly being a huge waiting list, but it's those few big games which are going to get people hooked imo

At the moment we find it no harder to fill the games against Burnley and QPR than we do the games against Chelsea and Arsenal because the ones where we could perhaps tempt in some new 'generic footy' fans and hope they fall in love the club are the more expensive ones which puts people off. IMHO

But I can almost hear the accountants thinking "big capital investment on the stadium in the form or extra seats followed by a price cut for the category A matches in order to try fill them" now how does the Return On Investment case on that little lot work Of course, we the fans would feel pretty good about it all, clubs getting bigger, but I bet the business case is highly tenuous at best!

If the extensions are used specifically for certain criteria then it shouldnt. Criteria being extra family area and such.

You couldn't have been or you'd have seen the big block of red seats in the away end totalling approx. 400 seats. There was less than a 100 tickets left in the home stands on the morning of the match, bar the odd individual front row seat we sold out....

how old are you? 10? and for the record there will be NO corner filling.the infrastructure cannot cope with the attendances we are getting now, so how the hell can they increase it to 30,000. beggars belief that most of those calling for the corners to be filled in only ever go to the big games.

Having just read Today's Sentinel article on the huge rise in fines for the illegal televising of PL matches, in the Potteries and elsewhere, - £65,000 fines locking in and pubs threatening to close - this just could have a positive effect on season cards for future seasons, providing another reason for a (reasonably) extention to the Brit.
What has surprised me, however, is the (unopposed) statement that most season card holders subscribe to them so that they may be guaranteed attendance at the top matches, not always bothering about the other games. Apart from the fact that you'd have to be a clairvoyant to know which matches are going to provide the most entertainment (i.e. 'top' matches) I had no idea of the wealth in the Potteries!
Pay for a full season just to attend only half a dozen games? Personally, I purchase one, in order to save a considerable amount of money,in so doing. Indeed if the Early Bird tickets can be afforded, I believe that it is about six matches that can be seen for free!
Maybe if those who buy SC's just to see a few pre-selected games, but not assuredly best matches, would gift some of their monies to an Expand the Brittania Fund, present dilly dallying would end.

Personally speaking at the height of TPs reign where we were playing great attacking football whilst reaching an FA cup final there was no extra demand for tickets so I don't believe that in the foreseeable future that there will be either.

We were at 98% capacity that season. In fact other than last season when people voted with their feet after the woeful fare on offer the season before, we've been at 98% capacity since our first season in the Premier League. So not sure how you can say there was no extra demand for tickets?
