Look at the table. 5 points off relegation. 4 points off of a champions league place. Apart from Chelsea the table looks incredibly tight so far this season this season seems to be anybody can beat anybody. I think we should've won today but didn't. However the performance for the rest of the game really makes me think the only way is up.

Dutch when you've done 47 years you can lecture me until then shut up and look at the results on your laptop until Jan look at sorenson so confident once and now resorting to abuse as 20points at new year looks increasingly unlikely as predicted in September and the humiliation is killing him

I'm more confident going into this run of games, Liverpool haven't been tearing anyone apart without a real strike force, Arsenal look dangerous but vulnerable and the same for Man U
If this season has taught us anything so far, we can compete with the top half, just don't expect us to steamroll anyone in the bottom half

I am as bitterly disappointed with the result as anyone else, but I am also less afraid of how Stoke will perform against "top sides" than at any time since Stoke got back into the top flight.
There was clearly an issue yesterday with the form of those players who had been travelling on international duty.
There are 3 things wrong IMO:
1. Defensive lapses; no clean sheet since the Newcastle game. This is fixable, there is the ability, it needs technique.
2. Failure to create goals from set piece play. This is fixable, again there is the ability, and better tactics are required, so often they seem to be going through the motions.
3. Inability to create sufficient goal scoring opportunities (sometimes like yesterday) and to take them (invariably this season). Maybe Stoke haven't got enough talent here, but this can be also a question of confidence. Certainly Stoke are now better equipped than at any time since promotion with pace to break quickly out of defence and score. This means they are a greater threat to the "top sides" when they are pressing Stoke.

I'm not in the least bit worried and I'm in the "Hughes can barely do anything wrong" camp. We'll be absolutely fine and we'll continue to struggle against teams who come with 10 at the back. I also predict that we will win the reverse fixture of all those that we have lost so far. People keep saying we will give someone a thrashing soon and I agree. I also think we will take a thrashing soon as well so bad are we defensively and when that happens, probably away at Manure, I still won't be worried. We will finish somewhere between 13th and 9th, comfortably away from the bottom 3.

Table sorting itself out now 3 down will come from the bottom 11 take Liverpool out and 3 from 10 When has it ever been any different to that. The whole of the bottom half of the table are in a relegation fight. Come the final reckoning we'll be nowhere near the bottom 3 and all those teams that have beat us to date will finish below us, Southampton excluded of course.
