It was possibly the manager's poorest game. Eveytone knew how Burnley would set up and seemingly he learn't absolutely nothing from villa and leicester at home it was deja vu. Diouf if he started at all should have been subbed earlier he was woeful. His only mitigation was his lack of option at the back. But he still got the positions wrong,Muniesa after an impressive game alongside Ryan at Spurs doesn't continue and he pitched in another partner for Ryan, I thought most people accept that you swap cd partnerships only if you have to...so why? Bad bad day Sparky, sort it...quickly 3 That is harsh. Diouf was shit, but he has been in good form and scoring goals - why would he drop him & change a winning team? Hindsight is a wonderful thing - Moses was also shit, should he have dropped him although he has been our best attacking outlet this season? As for the defence, it was always going to be difficult to juggle, but common sense suggests he went the best way possible. Cameron has experience at CH, Muniesa is left footed and has deputised at left back before with no issues. As for not learning from Villa/Leicester - what should he have done differently? same old shit mate...people saying he got x wrong, can't believe he did y etc. but then when you ask them for actual constructive criticism i.e. what should he have done, they all suddenly go quiet.

5* We need a better game plan to break teams who park the bus. Not much Hughes can do about individual mistakes but you can't play counter attacking football again a team determined to sit back.

I will ask you the same question then - how should we have played differently? We did not play counter attacking football. We had 73% possession and had 14 corners to their 0. They defended well and we did not cut it on the day after giving them a couple of early xmas pressies. Simple as that.

The possession stats count for nothing if you can't break a team down. You need that bit a magic to unlock a tight defence but we didn't see much of that on show.

5*, right team, wrong subs, didn't seem to do much to change things when it clearly wasn't working.

Nothing wrong with the line ups or subs.
Adam often creates something. Arnie got involved and showed plenty of good touches but looked a little ring rusty with his crossing. Crouch made sense too.

I'm having serious doubts about Hughes' ability to motivate his troops for the bread and butter games like Saturday. It's all very well getting them fired up for the likes of Citeh and Spoz, but we only look bothered against the likes of Burnley when we concede.
I had a look at the technical areas on Saturday (it was better than watching the shite unfolding on the pitch) and Dyche was constantly up shouting at his players and spurring them on. Hughes was slumped in the dugout looking like he was struggling with a crossword.

I agree, but we had all our skilful players on at some point with the exception of Assaidi. It was down to the players to do their bit. I fail to see where the gameplan as you put it could have been better, the players just did not cut it on the day.

Pez, we've been undone on three occasions now but three teams doing exactly the same thing. That fact alone point out that we have a problem with teams parking the bus. On each occasions those clubs have stopped us playing by denying space and closing us done quickly. That's no coincidence and the manager needs to address it. I'd have brought Assaidi on instead of Marko and probably would have got Adam on much earlier.

There were lots of blind alleys on Saturday.
Assaidi was your man to find them.

We sent out our best 11 (on the day) who chucked everything but the kitchen sink at them. If we had not have gifted them 2 easy goals we would not be having this conversation, but we did and were then left with a mountain to climb. Just a bad day at the office IMO.

It's happening too often Pez to be "just a bad day at the office". If it were a one off I'd agree with you but each of the three games has taken an identical course. We're a little frail at the back at the moment and the fact that we aren't exactly banging them in at the other end makes the scorer of the 1st goal critical. If we'd have got it then I think we'd have won comfortably but as soon as they got it I believed a draw was the best we could hope for and that was more out of hope than expectation.
