Is that one of the highest ever when the dominant team lost the game?

You can have all the possession in the world BUT we wouldn't have scored a 2nd if we were still playing now. What did Heaton actually have to do 2nd half?

I'm surprised it's that low as Burnley barely touched the ball after they scored the second. Fat lot of good it did us.

At least we've proved what we always said about possession stats - they count for the square root of bugger all!

Biggest problem today (other than the two crazy ass goals we conceded!) was that for all our possession we never really tested their keeper.
The final ball was often awful and we hardly created any clear cut chances.
Their keeper had a piss easy game.

Heaton had possession of the ball more than anyone else. If Burnley had twenty goal kicks he must have taken between 20-25 minutes to actually take them. With all their head <ahem> 'injuries' added to that I reckon the ball can have only been in play for about two soddin minutes

73% Possession, 14 corners to nil, 18 shots (14 off target) compared to 4 just go to show that stats mean jack sh*t. The only stat that's worth a carrot is who scores most goals and it wasn't us. We remain, as has been the case for many years, desperate for a striker who can consistently put the ball in the frigging net.

14 corners to 0 too wasn't it.
Battered them in to next week and fuck all to show for it.
One to file with Leicester City in the end I'm afraid.

Fucking keeper getting cramp, mind you he was moving that slowly when taking goal kicks it's no wonder the twat seized up.

With stats like that we should have hammered the cunts. We seriously need Coates to open his chequebook and get a couple of proven goalscorers in in January. Break the clubs record if need be, but just fucking do it.

73% in our own half passing it along the back line. Going forward we were actually piss poor.

#Its just like watching West Brom#
We used to laugh at teams who dominated possession and won no points.
There is an easy solution here.
In training concentrate only on defending and set pieces until Christmas.

We're now in uncharted territory for modern era Stoke City in that team after team come to Stoke to set up tight because they dont think they can beat us in an open game. Its how we approached games for 5 years. We've been in Burnleys shoes, sneaked a goal (2 in their case) and deciding 'thats enough for us,i think we'll just look to kill the game'.
Two mistakes to give the ball away and they hit us.
Stokies should know more than most the frustration it causes when you pack everyone behind the ball, and when its worked for us,regardless of the stats, its always been up to the opposition to break them down. It takes more than just twatting the ball in to the box. I thought we did the best we could to create them chances, and there were 3 efforts from Crouch, 1 from Diouf and Nzonzi at least who,had they just been arsed to get their effort on target, would have led us to celebrate a fantastic turnaround.
This is the next step up im afraid, and when we're given the respect and teams come happy with a point, we've got to actually make a bigger step up than we think as it becomes more than just doing the same as last season, its having to beat more defensive minded teams.
Im still very confident in us, and the frustration has to be considered against the way which we made sure we stayed up for 5 years.
Its perverse to think, but i feel more confident of going up against spurs, man utd, liverpool etc

It's a mark of our progress I'm afraid. A few years ago teams would come to the Brit looking for three points, a tactic that often played into our hands. Now the lesser teams come and set up to frustrate us just as we did on our travels during those first seasons in the Prem.
People have been saying we are now facing a bad run of fixtures against top sides. Whilst this is true it also means we are up against sides who will be more open and will allow us more chances to hit them on the break just as Burnley did today.
We were poor today, but Burnley, Leicester and Villa all came with the same game plan and executed it well. Complain all you like about them but it's our job to find a way through, our job to break them down and our job to secure points at home.
I fully expect other teams to do exactly the same at the Brit this year so let's hope MH comes up with something to combat it.
As for possession, corners, shots on target etc well, that's for the MOTD muppets to ramble on about. The only stat that means anything is Stoke 1 Burnley 2.

The stat that stands out for me is that with all that possession and all those corners we still only managed as many shots on target as Burnley did.

The most worrying star from yesterday is that we only had4 attempts on target from 25 attempts on goal!
That is simply not good enough

We are ineffective at turning possession into clear cut chances...............this has been the case all season. We need to see major improvements when it comes to breaking down a defensively set-up team, to create decent scoring chances. For all our possession yesterday we struggled to create any real danger in their box. This must be obvious to the manager so we'll have to wait and see how he addresses the issue
...........................I wouldn't say that putting Arnie on over Assaidi was a good decision unless there is something we do not know happening behind the scenes, which is of course possible.

In reference to the original question; when Celtic played Barcelona a couple of years ago, they managed just 16.4% possesion... but won the game 2-1.
Celtic's most successful passer that day was one Kris Commons, with 22 completed passes. Barcelona's was Xavi, with 166!
"It's a funny old game, Saint".

73% and not even tested the keeper. Embarrassing really. No lessons learnt from the villa or Leicester games. We simply don't know how to break down a side. It doesn't help when you play 2 cdm's and one striker at home!!
