I've signed the online petition to support these residents. If someone can supply a link here, it's well worth supporting.

When equity companies get hold of something it usually means they will get rid of it. Put the rents up to an unffordable level, and evict for non payments then knock it down and put something there to make them money.

Same as New York, all the poor people from the 1980s have been moved to New Jersey. Places like the Bronx and Harlem are becoming upmarket.

This is happening all over the place. Even in our little Devon village a local farmer sold land off to Barrets with a promise of several "affordable homes" for local people. The original plans stated 10 out of the 57 home development were to be 2/3 bedroomed homes and the rest 4/5 bedrooms. The development is well underway but somehow planning application changed to include no 2 bedroom homes, only 3 x 3 bedroomed homes at £245k and the remains 54 are 4/5 bedroomed priced £350-£450k. Affordable my arse. Many residents complained to our Parish Council chairman, but as always, they are pretty toothless when it comes to planning application approval as this is done at District and County level. Parish Councils can only make objections or comments on behalf of the community but because the farm owner is also a member of the Parish Council no more needs to be said.
