Legend. If some of our modern day "superstars" showed a tenth of his heart and desire their game would be all the better for it. Absolute gentleman as well, not sure how any Stoke fan could say a bad word about him to be fair, cost us nowt and sweated blood for the club when called upon.....

I just don't agree, sorry. He was a very limited player who nonetheless had an important job to do due to the manager's tactics. He was part of a team that bought us success so praise and respect is due, but 'legend'??? Not in my eyes. Not so sure I ever saw him sweat blood either...

The book not selling well? Watched an earlier showing this afternoon and your quite right there is a bit of emphasis on promoting the book. However it was worth watching in my opinion. Mama's book will never sell that well because he is too nice.If he had been a Vinnie Jones type then they would sell like hot cakes

Very moving interview - good luck to him in his new venture Those injuries obviously had a profound affect on him,and was sad to see recalling them still reduced him to tears.

To varying degrees, every player that was involved in getting us back to the top flight and then helping us to stay there in that first season, are legends, including Mama!

Mama will be remembered fondly by this current generation of Stokies, but those that call him a legend do not know what the word means IMO.

Do you really think he put in any more effort or commitment than the other players? With the odd possible exception I doubt it - Pulis would never have stood for it. We were known for little else in them days.

Not saying the other players weren't committed, but where some would possibly err on the side of caution when injured Sidibe would be out there.....

Not looking for a tennis match argument here, I just dont remember it that way myself. The majority of our players in the team in those days were Championship/lower Prem standard and along with TP's organisation/tactics had to give everything to compete. Sidibe was no exception, but neither was he some above and beyond hero. I don't remember him playing despite carrying any specific injuries? I do remember the two bad injuries he got, but the the club/TP stood by him and treated him better than most players would expect.

Mama was pivotal to our eventual promotion but too but him in the legend class is a bit of a stretch. That would put him in the same class as Mathews and Banks who are legends.

During the second Prem season, the combined idiocy of Beattie and Kitson meant that we had Mama playing virtually every game for quite a while despite clearly being a mile off being fit, which eventually resulted in him doing his Achilles again.

Pericard, Sweeney and sonko played either no part or no positive part of either our promotion or survival. Others, such as mama will be fondly remembered and in years to come will be given great receptions by supporters who never saw them play. For those players, that makes them, in varying degrees, legends. People will talk for years to come about mama's goal v villa and without looking people will think there must have been 100,000 people in attendance that day. Mama is a legend in his own right and an important player in the history of our club.

Apart from the various arguments about his playing ability (and he was a lot better than some gave him credit for) is it wrong or 'uncool' just to recognise he was a very decent human being who represented our club magnificently when coming into contact with us supporters and who adopted a humble and enthusiastic approach to his profession?

We had long enough without genuine heroes.....now we have plenty of serious candidates it pisses me right off when we play them down. Mama Sidibe deserves every bit of praise and recognition he gets.

I questioned his ability and selection on many occasions. What can't be questioned was his effort, commitment and what a top bloke he is.
