Never liked Shilton, a poor mens' Banksie.
Always had a lot of time for John Farmer; real shame he was treated the way he was, and/or, just happened to be in the wrong club at the wrong time?

Before my time but I have never really warmed to Shilton whenever I have seen him on TV.

I didn't realise John Farmer actually was a farmer.
He can join Kevin Keen, Graham Potter and Bruce Dyer on the list of Stoke players who are accurately described by their own surnames.

I remember it well also recall an article in The People with the headline 'Shilton on 350 quid a week' can't believe how much times have changed a case of being born too soon for many former players.

And all the Icelandic players of course. Another player I hoped would graduate to that list was Lee Fowler. However despite being a very slow and clumsy defender, he never actually seemed to commit any fouls.

Before my time but I have never really warmed to Shilton whenever I have seen him on TV. I don't dislike Shilton but I remember watching an interview with him where he tried to justify why he is England's greatest ever goalkeeper and he just came across a cunt tbh. Humorously, the guy doing the show mocked him effectively saying when it mattered, you fucked up, aka: 1. Fucked up against Poland, England get knocked out. 2. Beaten aerially by a fucking midget in 86, England get knocked out. 2. Flapped on the 1990 deflected goal off Paul Parker against Germany, England get knocked out albeit on penalties.

I went to Wolstanton Grammar School when John Farmer was a pupil. He was a very reserved guy and brilliant at basket ball, playing for England at school boy level. He left school before completing his exams to join Stoke, much to the vexation of the head master, who thought he was making a mistake. It wasn't very long though before he was earning a lot more than the head master. It is ironic that he pushed a couple (or 3?) of internationals out of the Stoke team to win his place in the first team, but subsequently lost it twice to 2 of the greatest ever international goal keepers.

I would say when it comes to what you get for the money Palacios is worst.
I relate the purchase of Shilton to our fall from the nogger top table. If the money had gone on a replacement for Richie who knows? A few weeks before Spurs bought John Duncan. If we had perhaps we'd have stayed competitive. I know we challenged for the title a few months after but the lack of a regular goalscorer cost us dearly in the next few years. John Bloody Tudor.

It beggars belief that Peter Shilton has found his way in to a thread which is fast dissolving in to one about who is Stoke's worst ever signing.
A year after leaving us he was a European Cup winner and went on to win 100 or so England caps.
