Following on from earlier threads, here is a step by step guide
WHAT IS XBMC/KODI (name will change to Kodi next release, but I will refer to it as XBMC here!)
In layman terms, its a free application based on the XBox Media Centre - pretty much the facility to play lots of
different media (streams, DVD, music etc) through one central application
Its available for ALL operating systems, Windows/OSx/iOS/Android/Linux etc.
I have an old PC plugged into my big telly just for XBMC!
The basic version you download has a few links to free TV from around the world, but its an open source app
meaning there is a whole bunch of people 'customising' their own channels and add ons (called REPOSOTORIES) that
you can install yourself and open up a world of free stuff
Some enable the software to 'skim' the video from the various websites around the world (EG SportsDevil, it picks
up the video feeds from Wiziwig, CricFree and the others), and present the video only in the app - no more
annoying iLivid adverts or pop ups, click here, wait 30 seconds for ad etc.
Others enable direct access to IPTV channels (ie source streams) from around the world
You can install and use as much as you want - streaming movies, sports, TV etc
All of it can be hit and miss, channels come and go depending on who is streaming them, when they get shut down
(they tend to pop up again somewhere else), quality can vary from worse than ITV to stunning HD - all depends on
your internet speed and home and that of the person hosting it.
Also, if you have a house full of gadgets like me, make sure the kids arent on PS4/XBox and online playing
FIFA/COD etc as that will affect your speed!
WHERE DO I GET ITXBMC is freeware, you can get if from here:
kodi.tv/Latest 'stable' release is XBMC Gotham 13.2
You can download the dev KODI 14 if you want to (I havent)
Its about to change its name from XBMC to KODI (some legal wrangling with Micro$oft I would guess) - both sites
are currently still operational.
Just download and install it.
Now the fun starts!
WHAT CAN I INSTALLFor complete newbs, there is a CONFIG WIZARD that you can install that will put the majority of the movie and
'skim' sports sites on there for you
Its called the
XBMCHUB / TVADDONS wizard, you basically tell it where the file is, and follow the instructions to
install it
Step 1 - Settings
Within the XBMC app, go across to SYSTEM, FILE MANAGER.
Click on ADD SOURCE, and in the ADD FILES SOURCE (where it says <NONE>) type in
fusion.tvaddons.ag and click DONE
In the bottom part give it a name, it doesnt really matter what - I call mine .Fusion (so its always at the top)
Click OK to save those settings
Step 2 - Install
Go to SYSTEM, then SETTINGS
ADD ONS
INSTALL FROM ZIP FILE
Click on the .Fusion (or whatever you called it!) option from the list
You should get a list of options - look for START HERE
Then choose the PLUGIN.VIDEO.HUBWIZARD (version number - it will vary) and click OK/ENTER
Go back to the XBMC Menu, and find PROGRAMS
Select the CONFIG WIZARD, choose your platform, and let it install all the channels for you - you will probably need to restart XBMC once done.
And thats it - you will then have a shedload of channels available to you in the VIDEO / ADD ONS section, things like ICEFILMS, SPORTSDEVIL etc - within them you have to do a bit of searching around for items to watch though, and as mentioned they are sometimes a bit hit or miss.
There are screenshots here of what you are looking for on screen
seo-michael.co.uk/how-to-install-xbmc-hub-wizard/I've moved away from those to the much more reliable
LIVE TV option, where there are literally thousands of
channels available to view live, including all the good ones you might perhaps want to watch something at 3pm on a
Saturday on.
Step 1 - Enable
Again from the XBMC menu, go to SYSTEM, SETTINGS
In here the first thing we are going to do is enable one of the currently disabled options
Select ADD ONS, DISABLED ADD ONS, and look for one called PVR IPTV SIMPLE CLIENT
Click on it, and select ENABLE
On the same screen then click CONFIGURE
Step 2 - Setup
This is where this one becomes interesting, as you are then basically going to add somebodys playlist to it, and there are lots of different sources - they seem to be competing with each other.
I use one from a guy called VDUBT25, it gives me around 3000 channels - there are others though (as per the one in the link below)
In the GENERAL tab, click on the M3U PLAY LIST URL box, and this is where you type the link to the streams
(Note, these go offline, so if your channels disappear you will need to look for a new one - they get shutdown from time to time - I know at the moment the
www.xty.me domain is currently offline so an alternative is required!)
In there, I am currently using this
bit.ly/vdubt25UNCHECK the CACHE m3u at local storage option (turn it off)
(Note 2 - the EPG guide wont work with this, when xty is back on the EPG will work too just like Mr Murdochs planner)
The other links I am aware of are:
xty.me/vdubt25bbts.thewiz.info/PVR/bbtspvr.m3uIf you want to add an EPG, click on the EPG Settings Tab, and put in the location for the EPG files
(they are setup by the playlist owner, so you will find this on their pages)
Click OK and save out of the config, and go back to the XBMC menu, and choose SYSTEM, SETTINGS, and choose the LIVE TV option
Make sure that ENABLE is turned on!
Then REBOOT XBMC - and when it comes back on you will have a new option on the menu bar of LIVE TV
Allow XBMC to refresh all the channels before you go in (you will see in the top right corner that its goes away and refreshes the list), but once done, in you go and you will see a plethora of channels - UK, USA, Canada, Europe, Asia, Middle East etc - all who show stuff you might want to watch...
Thats as hard as it is - just make sure that if your links all disappear its likely they have moved, but whoever you are following - VDUBT25 or the others below - just bookmark their pages and they will update you when stuff moves.
www.vdubt25.co.uk/seo-michael.co.uk/how-to-setup-livetv-pvr-simple-xbmc-kodi/Enjoy - there are lots of YouTube vids on their sites as well as photos and screenshots so you cant really go wrong, even if a technophobe!
The Sportsnet West/East/Ontario channel on IPTV is the best stream I have ever seen - full on HD even with my 5mb connection (I am waiting for fibre currently!)
(EDIT - for some reason the links in the post are not showing the http:// part at the start - make sure ALL links start with this for either solution)
