The reviews are in and it's pretty unanimous, PES has toppled FIFA to reclaim the throne, the first PES since PES 6 to rank higher than FIFA, the king has returned. www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-11-10-pro-evolution-soccer-2015-review"FIFA and PES seem to have swapped shirts, with neither catering to the original audience they once set out to attract. Based on this year's offerings, though, it's PES that has the clearer direction of where it's headed. Perhaps most tellingly of all, PES 2015 is more satisfying in defeat than FIFA 15 is in victory." www.psu.com/review/25147/Pro-Evolution-Soccer-2015-Review--The-best-PES-game-in-years"Some people will no doubt snort in derision at the very suggestion of any football game outside FIFA being worth their time, merely because of a somewhat justifiable weakness where official teams and leagues are concerned, but for those who genuinely enjoy football as a sport should give PES a chance this year as while its rival flaunts its overblown online trading card mode and flashy front end, PES 2015 concentrates on the key element: Playing a great game of football; and in that respect, it is the clear winner. metro.co.uk/2014/11/10/pes-2015-review-premiere-league-comeback-4942107/"A significant improvement on the last generation of Pro Evo games, and for the first time in years PES is more entertaining than the new FIFA."

Football games have moved on significantly though, does it have anything that rivals ultimate team, online clubs or online co-op? More personal points for me but they're all that I play FIFA for, the manager/career mode is meaningless.

Yes, PES has MyClub (Ultimate Team) and TeamPlay (22 player co-op), PES' advantages over FIFA are on the pitch though.
Dribbling, passing, shooting, physics are all much better than FIFA, FIFA just hasn't evolved since FIFA 14, and players and reviewers have had enough.
My advice, play the demo, it speaks for itself.

I just don't think that football games have evolved in at the same rate as other genres.
The graphics maybe sharper, but are they really that much better than when PES was at its peak around PES 4 time? in the 10 years and two generations of consoles that have gone since, I just don't think they've advanced anywhere near as much as 1st person shooters or RPG's have for instance.

Go back and play PES on PS2, it's extremely dated, look at how many aspects have changed...
- Analogue dribbling - Manual passing and shooting - Physics-based tackling - Dynamic animation - Ball no longer tethered to players - Modes like 22 player online and Ultimate Team
Classic PES felt good to play, but it was on-rails and you never had any real freedom or control.

They just haven't developed in the same manner as other genre's have though.
Go back and compare two first person shooters or GTA in the same manner as you've compared PES and I'm pretty sure you'll see what I mean.
EA with Fifa are particularly guilty of just churning out an updated version each season, with slight tweaks to the match play.
What they need to do, is go away and spend two years developing an all conquering football game, and release a download for the season they miss out to update transfers, kits etc.
Of course, they will never do this, because people still continue to buy the game each year like fucking lemmings.

Thanks OP. That's added to the Xmas list for the mrs to get me.
I was an absolute fan of PES a few years ago - wouldn't touch FIFA (based on buying a few of the early versions - which had players on rails and despite promising to have thousands of teams - didn't have Stoke).
Master League was absolutely brilliant. Taking the default squad of a bunch of players who could barely walk 10 yards and to start winning games was very rewarding.

I used to love the PES series, but after about 2009, it was impossible to score from outside the box and the ball physics were dreadful. Has that fault been rectified this year?

For all its faults, I love FIFA15 mainly for the presentation, official licencing, and game modes. Gameplay could be better but I think it's pretty good this time.
I will give this demo a go though.

I bought this (PES) yesterday and don't see what the fuss is about. I seem to be the only one but it just doesn't seem that great a game. Fifa is even worse, mind. I'll probably trade this in. Bought it for £40 and can trade in for £34 so could be worse but still a waste of money. I just don't like it but I just can't get into football games anymore apart from football manager.

Does it still have the non-licenced names in: "Potteries City" and "Wyan Storecross"?

PC version is garbage. Can't even play a full screen 1080p with decent res.
Very poor.

Just change the team names in Edit Mode.
Player names and likenesses are fine.

Just change the team names in Edit Mode. Player names and likenesses are fine. So in Career mode you would need to go through the whole roster to make it realistic?? Sorry, edit, you'd have to change all team names??

Just change the team names in Edit Mode. Player names and likenesses are fine. There used to be edited files you could download which you could use to reset all the names. Are they still available?

Yup, PS4 supports option files, unlike PS3 you can't import image files like kits and badges.

It's the best PES for many years and it's gameplay is better than fifa 15, but it still has far too many issues to compete. The presentation of the game is poor compared to Fifa, which really holds it back.
PES gameplay used to be streets ahead of Fifa, making it easy to tolerate the lack of licenses. Nowadays when the difference in gameplay isn't as great, it doesn't make it as easy to ignore the things that PES lacks.

FIFA all the way for me.
The whole licensing thing is a real issue in my opinion.

So I've just finished giving the demo a go on xbox one and PC.
What can I say? What a pile of utter dogshit. When playing in game the graphics are poor, don't get me wrong the cut scenes are beautiful but I couldn't care less about cut scenes. The game play feels so much like an arcade game. Picked it up so easy smashing bayern 3-0 first go.
The crowd sounds like a bunch of kids at an u21 England friendly.
There are some nice touches, the way players take the ball down is great and some of the movements when dribbling are nice.
What annoys me most is that FIFA isn't that great and doesn't seem to improve much, but if this is its main competition it's easy to see why EA churn out broken games every year.
Quite disappointed after hearing good reviews.

Played the PC version, 1080p max settings. Gameplay feels better than the demo version. Graphics could be improver, as could presentation. But it pisses over FIFA in terms of gameplay IMO.

Those of you playing the PC Version, I have uploaded a placeholder Edit folder for you on Mediafire. My folder will change all Premier League and Championship badges to their correct, real life badges. It renames all Premier League and Championship team names. I have renamed Italian League to Serie A with official league logo. The Premier League, Championship, League Cup and FA Cup now all have official logos. I'll get higher quality ones in the future. Official team badges now show up on kits. Stoke home and away shirt quickly redone. The Stoke kits are placeholder. When I am free next, I will have a go at making everything look better, and look at importing sponsors into the game. To use the folder. Download the one I uploaded. Then go to your Documents folder. There should be a KONAMI folder. Go into it, open the PES 2015 folder, then extract the save folder there. If you have a league season save, or cup, back them up. Because my upload includes my progress. You don't want to lose any progress. If you can find the equivalent folder on PS3 and PS4 this may work on them too. Worth a go if you have one of them systems! PES 15 EDIT FOLDERCheers

sorry but FIFA 15 due to the fact I can play as Stoke City at The Britannia Stadium rather than play as "The Potteries" in some generic ground with a generic kit and shit commentary.
The delivery of realism in FIFA makes me purchase it, you get used to the gameplay in time, PES feels cheap, tacky and a bit half arsed at times

Played both now. PES is much better. Got a decent option file. I got fed up of FIFA because its still the same game as five years ago and still has the same bugs! EA are a shit company.

FIFA does everything right apart from the gameplay, feels like you're controlling string puppets.
They need to make the game from scratch with a new engine, it's barely changed since FIFA 08.

Where did you get your option file please? My view... I use to play FIFA pretty much every day. I haven't picked FIFA up since I got PES for X-mas. The game play for PES is quite a bit better than FIFA, put the presentation is way poorer. The pictures of players on the screens are just comical to be honest. If you can get through that, and not having the photo-realistic strips (player names are good, and most of the non-English teams are accurate), then you have a great game.
