As the title says, how many of you are fucking weirdo's like me and like the angry stuff I know it's usually a minority who dig this shit. I first got into it when I was 15 listening to Sabbath and then Iron Maiden, also loved Guns N roses but wouldn't class them as metal of course. I got into the nu-metal stuff too like Korn, Linkin Park, Slipknot, Limp Bizkit, Papa Roach etc. I also like Metallica and System of a down. Any good bands you recommend and by heavy metal I don't mean Led Zeppelin or Nickleback

I've always worried that Metal is a bit White Middleclass Kid, kicking back at their folks!?! I'm with you on this. 'Bring Your Daughter to the Slaughter' Iron Maiden or whatever, Judas Priest 'Breaking the Law', Saxon, Ratt... etc etc was always a bit of tame mock shock to me. Fiddly geetar, tight trousers, girls hair, crap look. But I do like Motorhead. ... and Melvins, High on Fire, Nile and Meshuggah.

Oh for the late 80s early 90s when slayer, early metallica, megadave and anthrax ruled. Mind you chuck in some suicidal tendencies, nuclear assault, morbid angel, faith no more and deicide and you had a fucking mega night up the wagon and horses in meir on Saturday. No wonder my neck and shoulders hurt nowadays.

I've never been a fan of the term " heavy metal " .....just what does that mean exactly ?....I prefer heavy rock or perhaps hard rock as that probably covers my taste in the genre as a Deep Purple fan .....no all the dinosaurs haven't died out yet !

Older stuff more or less any thrash, if you like nu metal go for Pantera (earlier and better than Slipknot ). Newer stuff like Killswitch and Parkway Drive, or for really heavy/angry; Heaven Shall Burn.

I believe "metaller" is the term these days. It does not mean people made out of metal, but folk who enjoy this particularly stultifying, if raucous, form of music.

My next door neighbour is heavily into metal genres such as deathgrind metal (whatever that is), doom metal.??? and also something called 'porngrind metal' I cant imagine gettin down and dirty and try to keep up with the beat of 'porngrind metal meself...Id give it a damn good go though ! At least with Maiden or Sabbath and the like you could hear the words and theres some sort of musical arrangement. This is just a mixture of literally noisy stuff like roaddrills, jet engines, sirens and shit......BIZZARE !!

I agree, there is some really dark metal out there that I can't get into, my mate can listen to any heavy shit but I draw the line at slipknot (who are mental mind). I have to like the vocals in metal music, screaming from start to finish can be annoying but I can listen to some. 2 of my fave bands are korn and Maiden because I love Jonathan Davis and Bruce Dickinson. I can't get into black or death metal they are the proper fucking weirdo's!
