I think the clue was the badly injured soldier leading the players onto the pitch. Yes but what if the fella that questioned this wasn't actually watching that March? He asked a perfectly reasonable question.

Fuck me we're supposed to be "ashamed of ourselves" for not realising that football is commemorating Armistice Day over a week early this year. If the wife decides to bring forward our wedding anniversary and not bother telling me I guess I'll quite rightly be in the shit. It's the centenary of the start of the 1st World war personally I think it's good they make a big deal out of it. Do you know the date of your wedding anniversary? Sometimes mate. I don't have any problem with them making a big deal of it. I just accept that not everyone is aware that they are spreading this over two weeks rather than the usual one. I wasn't........for one.

But if you aren't watching why would you know it was remembrance? It's 10 days away, there's a game next week etc etc etc. That's what doz is saying.

Fuck me March you're usually much sharper than this. The bloke that questioned who had died probably wasn't watching these events AT ALL but just asked as a result of the opening comment on this thread.

I guess it is so that there can be a local remembrance of those who served (particularly in WW1 with this being the anniversary).

It probably is but with the way minutes silences are nowadays my first thought was "is Alvin Stardust a Wolves fan?". It't not too much of a stretch to not realise what it's for if you aren't watching. I mean I spent three hours in London at the Tower of London so it's in my consciousness but I still didn't click that's what it was for when I read the title of this thread! On a separate note, if you haven't been to see the tower with the popppies, do it!

I don't know who it was for either. H With your username I thought you would have made the connection.
If Wolves are at home today, they are unlikely to be at home next week, so a minute's silence today not next week rather than not at all??
in my opinion 1 mins silence regardless of occasion are not publicised enough. Half the crowd don't know it's happening As soon as the bugler started there was silence as away fans actually realise what's going on

This really fucking confused me for about 5 minutes, I was trying to work out how you knew one of the people on the pitch was a burglar Note to self - read things properly before thinking too hard, I now have a headache!

Why? It's the best part of 2 weeks ago yet, if I hadn't of read it on Twatter, I wouldn't have known either. For the two reason I put in my post above. I was talking RAF but you can be ashamed too if you're ex military! And having read your post any old reason? FFS. Millions of dead is any old reason? Mmm, RAF & The military!?! Unless RAF is a pilot I doubt he's seen any real action in the theatre of war...

WW1 started on July 28th with UK entering on August 4th. However today is the Centenary of the Battle of Coronel which saw a heavy defeat for the RN under Rear Admiral Cradock. His flag ship HMS Good Hope and HMS Monmouth were both sunk on 1st November 1914.

The poppy display at the Tower is awesome, have ordered 2 when they are removed.

I was directly above Blues fans who were 90% responsible in my opinion.
When the bugler started a few Wolves fans who would have been in the South Bank toilets could be heard singing, but they were not aware of the minutes silence, you know whats its like when you are underneath the Boothen, then for about ten seconds a dozen different Blues fans shouted "dingle *****" (yes I know many of you will agree with that sentiment) but they continued to shout for about ten seconds by which time most of the South Bank shouted "fucking shut up" or "fucking scum" in unison for a second or two. No Wolves fans on the terrace sthemselves said a thing until after ten seconds of Blues abuse.
Stoke would have done just the same in response. As I say Blues were 90% to blame. I was right above the Blues fans who were guilty of it and even fellow Blues fans looked horrified.
