Lost his man for all 3 Southampton goals tonight, we need a quality CB in January

If Huth's finished (which I fear he is) then CB has to be the priority in January.

I haven't seen them back so won't point any fingers but his pointing on the first goal was first class!

He was not our worst defensive culprit tonight. That dubious honour goes to Erik Pieters, who had his worst ever game for Stoke.

No, other than you're making up shit. Never noticed it during the match but just watched it again on the League Cup show and it clearly shows it mate, have a look and tell me different!!

You can't blame him for the first or last goal. For the first goal yes we could of been tighter to Pelle but you've just got to hold your hands up and say it was a bloody good strike. Pieters was at fault for their winner, fuck knows what he was trying to do, summed up is whole night.

Whoever the centre half is should be up his backside and the midfield need to be snapping at his heels too. It was wank defending. Cracking finish don't get me wrong but easily avoidable.

Tbf Shawcross and Wilson weren't too clever on it either. Shawcross stood there like a lemon and Wilson kind of ran into Shawcross and pointed. I want to see it back but it wasn't either centre half's greatest moment. Agreed re Cameron and Fonzy tbh, they needed to be there snapping at him too.

Can't blame him for the first or last goal, but I noticed right away the second was a big mistake on his part. Shawcross had the fella crossing the ball in (not sure who it was) which was the obvious intent on the man with the ball, so why Marc left his man and went to close him down also is beyond me. Very eager to attack the ball unfortunately. Whether that's something they train to do however I'm not sure because I often see Marc closing down and Shawcross dropping deep when he does.

He hasn't got a defensive brain. It's been there to see for the past 12 months.

I agree we need an upgrade. Too many mistakes starting to cost.
I reckon we also need a better LB.
I like Pieters but he just isn't good enough defensively. Had a shocker tonight.

the second goal was down to nzonzi not going with his runner, he just stopped and let him overlap to leave him clear to cross the ball

Given Pieters' performance tonight though, I would start Muniesa on Saturday.

Time to give Muniesa a go I reckon, he impressed me last season with his cameo there. Wilson is an unlucky footballer to be fair, every mistake he makes seems to get punished. He fell asleep for the 2nd and you only have to look at his reaction as he punched the turf in anger to know that. Take him out the firing line for a couple of games and lets see what Muniesa can do....

No chance.

Shawcross was about a mile away from the guy crossing the ball in.

And the third was all Pieters. Agree mate should never have been in that situation Pieters should have had the ball in the stand and that is unquestionable but Wilson did let Pelle come off him for a free tap in. Pieters at fault but doesn't change the fact that Willo couldn't keep track of the man he was assigned to mark ( TBF he should have been given Pelle to mark in the first place!! )
