This is a tough one to call. The defeat at St Marys just a few days ago will be fresh in the minds of the players and hopefully they turn out a better performance.
What team MH will put out is a bit of a lottery. A place in the last 8 awaits the winner but how many changes he will make is anyone's guess. We've used other cup games to bring in some of the fringe players. With home advantage it should gives us the edge so will MH go with a strong line up or will he give some of the more regular substitutes valuable game time ?
Bojan's name has come up again but I can't see him starting this one Sorenson (oops) Bardsley Shawcross Huth Muniesa Arnie Adam Nzonzi Cameron Crouch Diouf
I think he'll have Moses on the bench with his fitness still a bit of a worry with an important home game at the weekend.

Butland's at Derby mate so it'll be Bego or Sorro I would have thought.

Very hard to call the starting 11 for this one indeed. I'd suggest that only Sørensen and Shawcross are 100 % certain to start. Other than that I'd like to see Bojan starting as no. 10, with Diouf playing up front.

Progressing in the Cup is important, but winning on Saturday is very important. I don't think MH will take any risks with players who are critical to Saturday's game, so there could be quite a few changes.
I think he will rest Bego, Bardsley, Moses, Diouf who are critical for Saturday or have had injury/fitness concerns; plus whoever he sees covering Whelan's role. MH can't risk not having RB or defensive midfield cover for Saturday, so I expect Wilkinson to play (if available).
I think he will use Sorenson and some of the players used in the last Cup match at Sunderland, namely Huth, Muniesa, and Ireland.
Sorenson Wilkinson Shawcross Huth Muniesa
Nzonzi Sidwell
Arnie Adam Ireland
Crouch
Not my first choice! but needs must! More of an eye for Saturday, than a Cup run.

I worry about Sorro nowadays. I know he deserves his place in the cup team but I'd have Bego in if possible. It's not like Soton are likely to put out the youth team is it. Although I'd have him in for penalties if we got that far! :S

Sorenson :/
Bardsley Shawcross Huth Muniesa
N'Zonzi Cameron Sidwell
Walters Bojan Assaidi
Would be nice to get through but not the end of the world if we don't.

Somehow Sparky has to make this different from the game at St Mary's where despite only losing by the odd goal we looked very much 2nd best until that late rally. I'd love us to beat these clowns. Hearing their fans mouthing off on the way out about "keeping on beating these lower league teams and they can hang on to top 4" really struck a raw nerve with me I'd like to see Southampton take no further part in this competition after their visit to the Britannia Stadium. Put simply it is the only way we can get even here.

Southampton will play a strong XI, probably their strongest XI. They can afford to given the points they have on the board.
We might be casting one eye over Saturday's game already, but we have to play our strongest XI and go toe-to-toe with an in-form and very strong looking Saints side.
A victory tomorrow would be a huge shot in the arm for us. Confidence is needed.

Huth injured so I'd go with the following:
Sorensen
Bardsley Shawcross Muniesa Pieters
Cameron N'Zonzi
Aranautovic Bojan Moses
Diouf

Get the crowd excited !!

I walked back to the station with a load of these scummers. Ive never disliked them before but they really are up their own arses at the moment. C'mon Sparky, lets beat them and knock the deluded cnuts down a peg or two.

Good luck tomorrow. Hope you take them to extra time and penalties, get your best player sent off and suspended and knacker yourselves out for Saturday In all seriousness though, I hope you stuff them.

C'mon Sparky, lets beat them and knock the deluded cnuts down a peg or two. It's hard to put my finger on what annoyed me most about Saturday's visit to St. Mary's but I left with copious quantities of steam coming out of my ears It didn't help that we lost the game but had we won it 1-0 instead of losing it 1-0 we would only have been 2 points behind them yet Saints fans were talking as though it is a 3 way race to the title between them, Man City and Chelsea. Was it the stadium announcer who you wanted to ram his microphone up his jacksy? Was it the 30 minutes speeded up rendition of "Oh when the Saints" in my ear from about 15 fuckwits to our left in the stadium? Was it the hour it took us to drive the first mile from where we were parked after the game? Was it the man in the newsagents who offered me the vague platitude that at least we had not lost 8-0 with me thinking we still only got the same number of points as Sunderland I don't know But the prevailing thought was this lot simply have to exit the League Cup on Wednesday night. Nothing less will do

Now don't get me wrong I rate Crouch and think he is having a good season, however, we have to start with pace up top, ie no Crouchy or NSSJW. Go with Diouf with Bojan playing off him. Moses one side and Arnie the other. They won't have planned for that and when we did get at them eventually last Saturday we had a couple of great chances to get behind had the right ball been played (Mr N'Zonzi!) Its certainly winnable and would give us all a boost for the WetSham game.

Anyone else and I may have got excited but those two do seem to struggle to find the net normally.

We need to go strong tonight and give ourselves the opportunity to put a run together. I think we have the players to win a trophy this season and we should make every effort to do so.
Begovic Cameron Shawcross Huth Muniesa Nzonzi Sidwell Diouf Adam Arnautovic Crouch
Bardsley and Moses are clearly struggling a little with injury so it's an opportunity to leave them out and still play a strong team.
Are they making changes do we know?
