Maybe his boots didn't match, in a fashion sort of way - and he decided to change them.

Imagine if that was the booking to get him his 1 match ban?!

You can't leave the pitch with out the refs permission so he didn't so he shouldn't of been booked!
Another poor ref and a poor afternoon all round for the biased prick.

As I said in the match thread: too many shoes on the field. They don't want players to start wearing boots on their hands because that would be dangerous? Seriously though The ref must have felt he was wasting time, despite the fact we were losing. That or he removed an object of clothing on the field, but it's not like it was his shirt, it was a fecking shoe. It was a shit card from an otherwise fair ref IMO.

Having a football boot in his hand?
I believe that is an offence.

Ryan tied a Granny knot on his boots. As the match progressed, he wanted to tighten his laces, but struggled to do this. The Granny knot took control. Another pair of boots were needed. By this time the ref got a bit pissed off and booked him for time wasting.
Hughes in the meantime, was shouting at the ref to carry on with the game - after all, why should a game be stopped for a player (Nancy), to adjust his footwear.

Ryan had hold of his boot too tightly and didn't let go even after being warned by the ref

There is a little known historical reason for Moss' actions today. In his previous job at the drummer of Culture Club the band played a festival with '60s songstress Sandie Shaw, famous for strutting the stage barefoot. Shaw's performance was phenomenal that day and Culture Club were completely blown off stage, ending their set after three numbers to a wall of embarrassing boos, bottles of piss and rotten fruit. Moss never fully recovered from the psychological scars from that incident and the sight of any barefooted person in public brings out the bastard side of his personality.

Because he's just invented changing boots.

Why didn't the ref just send Ryan off to do his boots up, and add a little time on if the though he was time wasting, although why anyone would time waste when their team is one nil down confounds me.

I do believe that Ryan has very smelly feet, and the ref couldn't stand any more of the aroma!

Worse still, he then made him leave the pitch, putting us down to nine men.

As I understand it, Charlie was off being looked at, Ryan's shoe came off and he dropped to sort it. The Ref. ordered him off to fix it but Ryan, probably knowing we'd be down to 9 men at a v. dangerous time, ignored him. So I'm presuming it was for a bit of dissent. Harsh and a bit petty.

I assume it was because the ref told him to go off the pitch and he ignored him, can't complain really - especially when the ref allowed him plenty of time to try and sort his boot out a few minutes.

For being in charge of offensive boots during the hours of daylight, and looking at the ref in a funny way, and loitering with intent to pass a ball, and treading on the lines marking out the pitch....SAVAGE...YOU ARE A BIGOT.

Kinell, an honest and truthful answer, you don't want start doing this. All the refs are against Syoke you know!

On the same day that West Brom's Dawson got away with elbowing Palace keeper Speroni out of the game, with no punishment and the award of a goal, Ryan Shawcross was booked for taking his boot off.

I thought the ref gave us nowt (not that we deserved anything) and gave them everything. Last minute summed it up for me. They had a throw in down our left side and the ref had already indicated 4mins of extra time. They arsed about and had three different players walk over to the line and then decide not to take it , walk away or drop it for another player to pick up..it was absolutely blatant. Whilst it was perhaps not a bookable offence (unless he was going to book all three of them), it certainly wasted 45 seconds, maybe even more. This wasn't the only example of time wasting within the 4mins added time. I think the ref then played the 4 mins + 10 secs to account for Southamptons delaying tactics. Small point but summed up his bias in my opinion. I just think he believed Southampton were as nice as pie and we were rough house shite.

I think the team were pretty desperate to get to half time at just one down, so yeah, that may have been the reason. Asmir took an absolute age to take one goal kick towards the end of the half.

Anyone recall Denis Smith getting sent off away to Burnley (???) for going off the pitch and coming back on without permission? Or am I just getting senile?
