The EU need an extra couple of billion from the UK taxpayers and they need it quick smart, no longer than 3 weeks.
Seems to be because the UK economy is kicking arse with 3% growth (contributions are worked out according to performance and wealth) while other EU countries are suffering but also because we now bundle the 'black' economy in to our numbers. So for example prostitution is included in the UK numbers for the first time whereas it has been included in the German numbers since 2002.
It all seems very strange. I can't really believe it has come as quite the surprise the Government claims, surely the numbers are the numbers we supply to the EU and someone must have known it was coming.
Either way we can jump up and down all we like but we signed up to the thing and my guess is we have to just pay this fucker and find another £2 billion in cuts elsewhere.

A more pressing local issue would be the £5 Billion extra it's going to cost for the pointless HS2 to actually avoid going through Stoke.

Fuck 'em. Don't pay it and they might fine us £50M which we'll dispute for years and years.
Or alternatively VOTE CONSERVATIVE next May and we'll have that referendum on Europe.

I believe our normal contribution is 50m per day.
I assume If Barroso pushes this then we will end up exitting and,as a result he'll get nowt in future.
The problem is we don't feel like 1 state and therefore when we are asked for more our reaction is negative whereas generally on a national basis we all contribute and some benefit more than others, but it isn't so overt

The EU's principle aim with the UK is to transfer financial might from London to Paris and Frankfurt. They seem to think the best way is to keep us in, so i doubt they'll do anything to annoy us too much. There will be a concession and we will pay a reduced amount some time in the future when the furore has died down.

Not quite correct, it's a reassessment of how the economy did over the last 19 years. I'm not sure what people are getting their knickers in a twist, I thought quite a few people on here wanted money taken off the rich and given to the poor

The EU is a socialist concept. It's all about redistribution of wealth.

Prostitution & illegal drugs contributing £10 billion a year to the British Economy? Blimey So, am I reading this correctly...this 10BN black economy has been over-estimated by the government in order to make the overall economy look healthier, but as a result of having a better economy (albeit false) the UK gets a EUR 2BN bill? If thats the case, why over-egg prostitution and drugs when you know you'll be taxed for it? So if the government had said prostitution/drugs costs GBP 1BN, the UK wouldn't have this huge bill? Its been hard to see beyond the hand-wringing in the articles I've read what the bill is for.

Yes oh dear, they can't even get the facts correct, I'm quite surprised supposedly bright people would even post a link to it Care to point out what's factually incorrect? They quote 'because the economy had improved' and to 'the extent that David Cameron says it has', The money the EU are asking for is a rebalance for the last 19 years, not how well we are doing now.
