If Geoff becomes a midfielder in Mark Hughes' eyes, it creates a conundrum on just where Sidwell fits in and why he was signed in my opinion. Obviously there is the possibility both Nzonzi and Whelan could be injured at once but it's very unlikely to happen and a lot of chance to sign someone on that backup basis...

I think he'll start the cup game on Wednesday.

Just seems like he keeps getting pushed further and further down the pecking order.
Adam, Ireland, Bojan, Cameron, Sidwell - attacking midfield Nzonzi, Whelan, Adam, Cameron, Sidwell - defensive midfield
He must have been expecting more time when he signed surely. Not saying he deserves it but just seems odd for someone at his age, still got a few seasons in him at least.

I'm surprised he hasn't played more games, perhaps Hughes isn't impressed at training. He always seemed a decent enough player to me.

Backup to Cameron and Whelan surely?
Does he have any other positions he can play?

After Stoke being one of the "fittest" clubs last season, based on the number of days/matches lost by players due to injury, it is now alarming the rate at which players are now missing matches.
It seems to me that the depth of talent in the squad will be a huge asset especially when we get to late December and start FA Cup matches, when matches start coming thick and fast, and particularly if we are still in the Capital Cup.
I see Sidwell as a potential replacement/cover for N'Zonzi and liable to score more goals if he was to get his chance and settle into the side. I think he would do the role better than Charlie, who I think should play further forward.
My guess is the primary reason Sidwell was bought was because MH knew he was a very good player, who was availble for no transfer fee, and he thought N'Zonzi and / or Cameron could be sold if the right offer was made.

He can score goals though, so he could play in a more advanced role if Adam or Ireland was unavailable, although someone else would also have to be missing. As said above, he'll doubtless play in the Cup.

Would you drop Cameron for Sidwell?

It's a long season. I'm sure the likes of Sidwell and Bojan will get their opportunities.

If Sidwell of old had been signed you'd have seen him instead of Gcam. As it stands he doesn't seem to be too high in the pecking order.
