That song was a Boothen staple, but I thought he was as dead as the song... Obviously not, would be a bit silly to release a coffin. Apart from that horrible 70's chant, how is this footie related by the way?

It isn't - but this thread gives the chance for some of our chavs and former chavs to have a little orgasm remembering the chant and how hard they felt when they chanted it at the Police.

Just shows we've got enough of our own scum bags to think about without importing half the world's shite. I'd let the old cunt rot where he is.

48 years what a stretch that is. When he went to prison England had just won the World Cup.

48 years what a stretch that is. When he went to prison England had just won the World Cup. A stretch indeed. It will take him some time to adjust to life in 2014. For example, he will find it hard to accept that Brucie is still (sometimes) on our screens. Or that Cliff is still churning out Christmas singles.

Heard the song for years as a kid and probablly, stupidly sang along with half the stokies. Always away from home I heard it though. Can't rememeber hearing it at the Vic. Its only when you're old enough understand what happened that it hits you. 41,30 and 25 the poor blokes were. Shot dead in front of kids as well. Bet its sung somewhere this weekend...

I'm only 22 and i remember this being sung 10-ish years ago back down in the lower divisions. Never much liked the police for a host of reasons but with that being said someone who's killed 3 PEOPLE (because there job shouldn't really come into sentencing IMO) shouldn't be walking the streets, however old...

I really don't know why people get so upset about a few words. Yes not politically correct but it doesn't hurt anyone. Some people are far to precious in this day and age.

It's not really a chant to get too precious about now is it? It's actually a very interesting piece of social history and was part of the time. Most coppers who Policed football matches wouldn't have been particularly offended as they were too busy hitting football fans over the heads with truncheons when they weren't attacking law abiding picket lines.

Do you think its ok and fine to celebrate killing? If you take it in context then yes. It is not really celebrating a killing though is it. It is taunting the old bill who let's face it deserve all the abuse they get when they treat you like shit for being a footie fan. They are just words and nothing to piss ya pants at. Just to add if it doesn't directly affect me or my family I really couldn't care a shit.

There was a lot of politically motivated stuff going on back then. Coppers were mostly taken from the lower middle classes & tended towards egg chasing as oppose to nogger, so they were seen as "other" & authoritarian. It was also a long time ago & $#!t loads of far worse stuff has happened since...

Fucking disgraceful that killing a police officer is viewed as so much worse than killing any other human being. People have been let out for far worse after serving less, and it's not caused as much of a stir.
Pretty disgraceful that he's being let out still

However if you're a police officer, you can kill whoever you want, just ask Harry Stanley, well don't, he's dead, he was shot by a police officer who had absolutely no reason to fire at him. What happened? The policemen were allowed to continue serving and the Met subsequently said that they were delighted that the officers had been let off but were disappointed it had gone to trial in the first place. A reminder... they shot an unarmed man, who wasn't wanted for any crime and was walking home from the pub. Quality police work there guvnor.

I know there's a difference between the analogy I'm about to present and the singing of the harry roberts song, but I don't think you can condemn one whilst condoning the other. Do you agree with religious-fundamentalists going around our streets desecrating memorials to our fallen soldiers or condoning atrocities committed against innocent people that they may have zero intention of ever partaking in themselves? Somehow I have a feeling you have similar views to me on that topic. (it's noted and recognised from the post you've made that you haven't glorified the harry roberts song, just merely accepted it as a non-issue)

It was a different time and place when the song was sung. Football fans were all treated like shit and the old bill treated everyone like drunken hooligans and pushed us around like cattle. This was just an anti-authoritarian chant.
Too think Pistorius is likely to walk after 10 months for killing his girlfriend vs. 48 years in Roberts case.
Proof that money can buy you freedom

And if they weren't they soon would be after a chorus or two of the Otter song. It used to wind them up to fuck, momo, and I guess that was understandable but the whole point in singing it. Ever likely we haven't got any songs these days most of the fuckers on here would need them passing by committee!

Firstly words are just words actions are completely different. Secondly I respect our fallen soldiers because they have earned it.
