"He hasn't just signed a new 3 year contract at Stoke has he?" Did I miss this? I think some Derby fans are hoping they may sign him and this was a 'knowing our luck' comment.

gutted we won't see him in the cup next week, missed him going out on loan.
As harsh on Tommy as it sounds I hope Bego plays against Southampton, it's going to be difficult as it is never mind with a rusty keeper in goal who is past his best

HE'S NOT 3rd CHOICE !!!!!! When will people realise that ? Here's the curious nature of this situation, so far this season... Begovic is our League Number 1 Sorensen is our League Number 2 Butland is our League Number 3 Butland is our Cup Number 1 Sorensen is our Cup Number 2 Begovic is our Cup Number 3 So to sum up, Begovic is our main goalkeeper as he starts every League match. Sorensen is our 2nd choice League goalkeeper and 2nd choice Cup goalkeeper. Butland is our 3rd choice League goalkeeper and 1st choice Cup goalkeeper. So if i'm reading this right, it's what i can only call "a bit odd" as we have a goalkeeper in Sorensen who is on the bench for both League & Cup games, yet Begovic only features in the matchday squad for League matches where he's number 1. Butland can't make our League matchday squad yet is first choice in the cup, ahead of our league and cup "number 2" Thomas Sorensen who is the only goalkeeper who never plays yet is ALWAYS number 2 on matchday. Headache time.

He's only 3rd choice mate because he's too good for the bench and needs games so he's constantly loaned out
Once Asmir leaves he's straight in to number 1

I expect we thought Bego would leave this summer but he hasn't, so naturally we play him in League games because a) he's good enough and b) we'd be foolish to reduce his potential sale value by not playing him. I expect him to be gone in January or June/July for a big fee and Butland will then be our number 1.

Bang on Lakeland I just hope we don't end up with a situation where Butland requests a transfer next summer because Bego hasn't moved and then we lose Bego the following summer when his contract expires. I suppose if Butland is patient enough he'll know next summer if he's only a season away from being our number 1 if Bego doesnt sign a new contract. Either way are we looking at needing a new keeper in the summer to be our number 2? is Sorensen's contract up?

A quick google says that he his Lakeland so I suppose it will depend on whether or not the club see fit to offer another 1 year deal in the summer if not then we'll need a number 2 and I think Butland is too good to be sat on the bench as its already been said. We've got a couple of decentish keepers in the Academy but they need to be playing games and not sat on the bench either.

He's been our number 2 for a number of years and, in my opinion, he's a worse keeper than when he became the number 2. Who we should get in may depend upon what the club thinks Bachmann's prospects are of making the grade.

I agree I'm certainly not relishing the prospect of him between the sticks for the Southampton game. Its a shame Bachmann got injured during his recent loan spell as it would have been good to see how he faired in league football.

He's only 3rd choice mate because he's too good for the bench and needs games so he's constantly loaned out Once Asmir leaves he's straight in to number 1 I totally agree with your second line there, i'm not as thick as i may let on that i is. It's just an odd situation, as i've already mentioned further up from here. Sorensen should be the Carlo Nash of the squad at the moment, however he's always on the bench and hasn't played a cup game. I'm solely referring to this season so far here by the way, forget that Jack's gone out on loan, that's only happened just now. He's been a member of our squad up until this loan move. So we've played 8 league games this season meaning 8 potential injury issues re: Begovic. So let's say Begovic got injured either during or warming up ahead of one of those games. We didn't have Jack Butland on the bench (he's too good for the bench ) so who do we have? Thomas Sorensen, who i'm guessing not many, if any would rather have to replace the injured Asmir in there ahead of Jack Butland, a keeper who is either sat in the stands or out shopping with his missus. So Sorensen goes in goal instead as he's the only back up on the bench even though Jack Butland is a better choice than him. That's just a head-scratcher. Hughes must have let Sorro know the score, so it's not simply a case of keeping him happy by always having him in the matchday squad for every competition. You'd think that if he rates Butland higher than him (which he should) then why not have Butland on the bench during league games and then send him out on loan? That's the only thing i don't get in this. Your line "He's too good for the bench" is fraught with danger though, wezza. "Why are you NEVER in the matchday squad Mr Palacios?" "Ahhh, too good for the bench mate, just, too good for the bench"
