If Glenn is out then i would play him in the same position as against Swansea leaving Ireland out . Charlies display keeps him in.

Hopefully Bards is ok so Geoff can slot into midfield and carry on his excellent form from Sunday afternoon.

Yes, I don't think Whelan will be fit, so yes, Cameron starts in Whelan's position. If Whelan is 100% then really, he has to return.

One game does not a season make... But based on the amount of tackles he made and his distribution during the cameo, I'd give him his start even if Whelan is fit

Southampton very similar to Swansea in midfield where they like to get it moving fast so i can see Cameron being needed. but also you got to admit charlie played the game the right way keeping Ireland on scraps

If Whelan is injured, yes.
If Whelan isn't injured then maybe. It's tempting to try him over N'Zonzi.

If Whelan is injured, yes. If Whelan isn't injured then maybe. It's tempting to try him over N'Zonzi. Yes, a good point. When Whelan is fit again we could end up with Whelan and Cameron for some games and Whelan or Cameron plus NZonzi for other games. I think when all three are fit it might be the threat posed by the opposing midfield which will determine which permutation is best. Certainly, Cameron's cameo on Sunday means he MUST be given a chance to stake his claim for a regular midfield place. It is no secret that Adam in midfield has worried me in the past - because of his defensive rushes of blood to the head - but the possibility of Whelan and Cameron in tandem would make me a lot happier for Adam to be the third midfielder. Cameron's athleticism and Whelan's steadiness could be the key to getting the best out of Adam on a regular basis.

Adam seems to be a lot more sensible in his outings this season - less lunging, less red mist, more joking around with opponents. So playing him deeper is not so much of a risk. Nevertheless, I think he should go behind Crouch instead of Ireland, and Cameron partner Nzonzi. Whelan should make a proper recovery, and if we're winning and playing well, fight for his place again.
One word of caution re Cameron though. In the same way as forwards like to come on against already tired defenders, a sharp defender can capitalise on sloppy tired passes and weary legs from front players. So he may not be quite so much of a stand-out performer playing from the start.

I don't see the need to drop Whelan, when fit, for Cameron. In fact, I think the two would really help to build some confidence in our back line again. Cameron can carry a ball forward just as well as N'Zonzi as well so there isn't any reason why its not possible to play the two together.
Also, with a more formidable midfield, could we see the return of Bojan at att. mid?

So, some are advocating dropping N'Zonzi? Good luck with that.

Whilst Whelan is unfit I would start Cameron in preference to Ireland. Hopefully the experiment of starting Adam and Ireland is over, Adam is playing well but Ireland isn't, and they don't play well together. If Cameron can prove himself in that position for us, I would be happy to see him, Nzonzi and Whelan in midfield.

His performance on Sunday should have made both MH and TP wonder why he hasn't been tried properly in the holding role before.
It's not like he hasn't played there for the USA team.

Even if Whelan is fit I'd play Cameron. So if Huth came in for a suspended Shawcross and played well would you do the same ? Cameron was excellent on Sunday BUT....Whelan has been immense and should be one of the first names on the sheet if fit

He played there, and very well too, in his first game for us. Against Arsenal too. Strange how we didn't continue with that. Before he signed I mentioned on here that I thought he was being brought in for RB. I was told that in would be madness to buy a CB/DM to play at RB, why not just buy a RB? But that was the genius of Tony I guess!

A bit over enthusiastic and made some simple errors, but looked very good. Yet I can't think of a game that he's played there since, except Sunday?

Did he not play the game (or part of it) against Arsenal at the Emirates too? The one where he scored?

Cameron has a knack of pinching the ball off opponents without having to physically push them off the ball. In his 1st game against Arsenal playing centre mid he did this time and again. He also did it the other night when he came on, especially in front of Bony. The one benefit of playing Cameron will be his athleticism through the centre. I worry about his distribution at times but fair play, against Swansea he was spot on with everything he did.
Against Southampton we need to restrict Tadic of opportunity to pick his passes. Cameron will be integral of breaking up play to stop their new playmaker getting on the ball to easily.
