I went to see them last season with a mate who was a vale fan (took him for his birthday) and to be honest it was okay it certainly better than sitting around and doing nothing but the price was ridiculous for the standard of football on show so I doubt I'll do it again. This is the problem created by Sky and the Premier League. The biggest clubs (in the Prem) get a subsidy of over £60 million each per annum with hardly any of it trickling down to the lower leagues. In such a system it was inevitable that we'd end up in a situation where the price of lower league football looks expensive compared to some (but not all) in the Prem. £5 million per annum per club would transform the lower league game.

Firstly slayer I think you need to do your homework about the banks/bankers issues. Regarding Vale, I would imagine the Council weighed up the money required to keep the club going compared to the problems it might face if they went out of business, those problems might have been both political and economic, but that's just my view. You also have to remember that Stoke on Trent City Council actually went into business with Stoke City Football Club at one stage......with Tax Payers' money. This at a time when there were no guarantees about returns etc. Indeed investing in a football club at Stoke's level (at the time) was a very controversial and risky thing to do. They came out of it ok but, as a Stoke fan, I'd never want to 'tackle' the Council about it's loan to Port Vale. The intent of the investment was never solely about making money from the stadium build alone. The bigger picture was about opening up the Trentham lakes project. The advice to build a sports facility was given by the consultants the city council appointed to advise them on how to make the project a success. Any investment is a risk of course but the level of risk associated with this I would guess was quite low. It was never ever an investment in a football club. Given that the council made profits from the stadium throughout the length of their investment, recouped the original investment when the club brought the stadium outright and the thriving business area Trentham Lakes is I would say the council invested very well indeed in this project. Compare that to throwing money to bail out an ever sinking ship like Port Vale, forever having repayment agreements broken and ultimately defaulted on, then having to pay out more to cover administration costs, then you are on pretty firm ground when it comes to tackling anyone about the Port Vale "investment".

I'm not really aware of the fine detail about Stoke or Vale and their dealings with the Council.
Nevertheless I always see the demise of a football club as sad for the supporters of that club and the local area in general. Any football club needs to get its house in order financially, of course PL clubs and their supporters may find it difficult to understand the problems faced by smaller clubs, and the saying " there but for the grace of God" or something like that comes to mind.

Port Vale have now been in administration twice within the last ten years and could well end up there again, if what you are insinuating is true why are other clubs in the same and lower divisions not taking this option, Port Vale has been artificially kept alive time to switch off the support allowing this to continue, how many local companies etc in our area have been financially damaged by them defaulting on their debts

They have got 2 home games this week so paying £52 for 2 games is a lot of money, a lot of fans would pick just 1 of the games so there will be a massive 5000 on Saturday at vile park. The thing that pissed me off was at the start of the season smurf was in the sentinel with his plans for the vale which is fair enough. He then went on to talk about us and stated as a club we could go no higher than last season {which may be true} but you would expect a chairman of another club to concentrate on his own club.I think he is hoping for a vale fans wet dream them up but more IMPORTANTLY us down.I think he his putting £500,000 in this year because of a shortfall, thats roughly £10,000 per week or £1500 per day I wonder how long that will go on for. TICK TOCK VALE THE MONEY CLOCK IS TICKING.

Hopefully the local primary schools will host another 'own clothes day' for them.
