Apparently with him saying " If I'm not playing it's a no brainer". Well for a start that's bollocks because he has played and even started league games, I'd be surprised if he does go, it's not like he's completely out of the managers plans he fucking scored 2 days ago

For me Sunday showed he still has a place in the side and his business with us is not yet done.

A team needs a mix of youth and experience, graft and guile but needs balance
to much much or not enough of a certain skill causes problems
walters is our graft, very much needed at times. sign him up tell him he will play when needed, surely a better option than grinding out 46 games in the championship

sjw should stay. proper grafter. Mind you,I think he looks a better player now for not running round none stop for a thousand games on the trot!! Always looks sharp as a sub. Great header sunday.

We need Walters, but is he going to be happy playing a bit part? Some players are, some players aren't, I'm guessing Jon isn't.

He is a useful member of the squad. I can't see him getting a better club than us, in all honesty.

With Wingie out in the medium term and with both Diouf and Moses having muscle injuries early on in their Stoke careers, we'd be mad to let Walters go at the moment. And he'd be pretty daft to leave as I suspect he is going to get quite a few starts and sub appearances during the next few months - certainly until January. In January he and we can reassess the situation in the light of Diouf and Moses fitness and whether we have signed Agudelo and/or Yarmolenko. Personally, I hope we can find a way to keep him, I can't imagine any point this season when he would not be a useful player to have on the bench to bring on, if needed, late in the game. He offers energy to the attack and puts in a shift defensively as well - what's not to like?

Dear John.
Football nowadays is a squad game. Don't do anything daft.

Think of it like this, atm he is probably more important to us, even as a bit player than we are to him. I don't believe for one minute he is the type of player who is content to take the money and sit on his arse on the sidelines waiting for scraps. I would hazard a guess that he would be far happier playing every week maybe for a lesser team and on lesser money. He will feature a bit over the next month and maybe he can grasp this chance and with a bit of luck and some goals can get more time on the pitch. I will hold my hands up, beginning of the season I thought if we wanted to move on to the next level we would have to leave players like JW behind. A few goals could change the picture totally.

Still a useful player We don't need to sell With PoW injured we need the cover
£6m+ before we entertain any discussions for me (as ridiculous as that sounds).

He should consider though, that he looks a far better player when he isn't playing every game. If he gets starts in the cups and the odd league game and is a fairly regular sub in other league games, then we'll not only get the best out of him, but he'll also have the satisfaction of performing at his best rather than looking knackered and often, ineffective, as has happened in the past two seasons.

He isn't the man to start every game for me but he's still the man who needs to be playing against the likes of Chelsea and Man City, especially away, ahead of Assaidi and Arnie

I don't disagree LP, but I do wonder how many players would admit they need to reduce their game time?

He's a man who wants to start every game though. He's not the type of player who is happy to sit on the bench and make the odd substitute appearance every now and again. Which is something you have to admire.

From JW's point of view I would imagine he and his family are fairly settled on the Wirral so the only real alternatives he would have (other than Burnley who are likely to go down anyway) would be North West championship clubs. I think he is better than that and I would imagine he probably does to so hopefully he will back himself to get more starts and Hughes will do the right thing by him.

Where would he go? Is there another Prem team where he would be guaranteed a start? Burnley ,Leicester,Palace? It may be that he would have to step down a division and would he want that? I doubt he will go anywhere.

I very much doubt SJW believes he is a better player feeding off a few scraps as a 2nd choice starter even if a few folks on here do.

He's still a good squad player although he may get the odd start. If he went I'd wish him well.

His appearance as sub against Swansea, his goal apart, just shows why we need to hang on to SJW. As soon as he came on, we were in their faces and the pressure from them was eased. After his goal they were desperate to get back into the game and their game fell apart.

He could go but I don't think he will. His contract is up at the end of this season (I think)??
Makes sense for him to either demand a 2 yr deal with us or get a biggerr payout in the summer on a free.
