A quote from the BBC Sport website (Swansea match report) for us to consider here:
"Bony's composed finish further added to Shawcross' woe as no player has conceded more penalties in the Premier League since the 2008/09 season than the Stoke defender, whose unwanted tally stands at seven."
Pretty damning stuff eh?
Except.. Wait... 7 penalties in 6 and a quarter seasons? About one penalty a season?!?
!!!
AND FURTHERMORE... hasn't Shawcross been in the top handful of appearance makers EVERY season?
TWO HUNDRED AND ELEVEN Premiership appearances since 2008. More than the supposed star names of Rooney, Gerrard, Lampard, Terry, Cahill... More than nearly everyone else, despite him having been just a young kid for the first couple of years.
And yet rather than run a positive story highlighting his amazing appearance record, they have to mislead the public by finding a negative angle that suits their anti-Shawcross agenda.
So what twisted fact should we expect next I wonder? A "telling statistic" highlighting how Calum Chambers and John Stones should be shoe-ins for England, because they've amazingly somehow conceded fewer Premier League own goals than Ryan Shawcross?
It really is a joke, except we Stoke fans are not laughing.

Out of curiosity, how many more games than Terry and Cahill?

Let's be honest, it's a damn sight easier for a referee to give a penalty against Stoke than it is against Liverpool, ManU, ManC, Arsenal & Chelsea. This also has to be considered when reviewing the stats.
If Ryan had spent 6 seasons at one of these clubs the number would be half.

Out of curiosity, how many more games than Terry and Cahill? Since we've been in the Premier League Shawcross - 211 Appearances Cahill - 190 Appearances Terry - 192 Appearances

I read somewhere Koscielny has conceded 6 in 126 games since 2010.
Don't tell the media though...

There is no doubt in my mind at all, that there is an anti Stoke thing going on. Could it be that Stoke in itself is still classed as a working class area? There is a definite amount of snobbery in our beloved game nowadays? Plus the fact that we won't lie down and accept all this rubbish, when you see what goes on in other games.

Spot on, also consider how much more defending Shawcross has to do compared to Chelsea/Arsenal/Liverpool, especially in the earlier seasons..... I don't have the stats to hand, but my understanding was that Shawcross has made more tackles/interceptions/headers won than the other defenders you mention as well....
