This thread is a tribute to the game - an ever present in my houses since childhood Which counter do you choose when you play this legendary board game ? Nowadays I go for the boot - I like its understated appearance. It wasn't always like that, in my youth I plumped for the ship, but post falklands war it's uncanny likeness to the General Belgrano, made me suspicious that it was contributing to a losing streak. So I switched to the racing car during the remaining Thatcher years. My wife should naturally gravitate to the Iron. But thinks she is above that and always picks the dog

In 30 plus years of playing monopoly, I've never completed a game. I tried to play risk last week with my dad and my son but couldn't get my head around the rules and the set up stage, so I have up.

Haven't played Monopoly for years, was never really a huge fan, not much skill involved really, relying on luck of the dice too much.
Risk is an excellent game, still relying on luck of the dice but a lot of tactics involved.
Cluedo is also an excellent board game.

My tactic has always been to buy everything I land on an mortgage up to the hilt. I'd just trust to luck that I would make it around the board to Go! without any unforeseen expense - this approach may be out of favour since the Irish tried to use it in real life - unsurprisingly leading to the collapse of the celtic tiger.

Isn't there a modern version where all properties have been given a modern valuation and all transactions are done by credit card or something like that.
