"When everyone else does it, its world class defending. When I do it, its cheating".
Look at the emotion as he spoke those words.
For those who think he isn't hurt by being continually overlooked by England, look no further than this.

Nice one Ryan.
He knows he's better than the plethora of shit England have in defence at the moment, it's about time he went on the offensive about it.

The positive from this is that Ryan will be now allowed to attack the ball from corners rather than man mark. Second half he was dominant at set pieces.

Cant help thinking this wasn't the wisest piece of media handling and before anyone says I love him to bits I see the point you're making, however the amount of unfounded and undeserved vitriol directed at our captain over the last few years has been disgraceful, he's more than entitled to a sly dig back.

some of the current England defenders never get close enough to their opponents to grab them. Good for Shawcross in saying it. Hodgson would have turned the telly off before seeing the comment.

Agree on the unjustified stick I just don't think this sound bite and it's timing will help understandable as it is, a slot like crouch did on sky undoubtedly would

More class in his big toe than any of those who decry him. A colossus and a bona fide Stoke City legend.
A stoke hero already to match ANY other.

He's got away with it for years. However as already highlighted when he was left zonal marking we looked much more comfortable defending set pieces.
Hes the 2nd best English defender for me in the league behind JT. I hope he gets another chance at international level.

fuckin hell i think thats the first time ive ever heard shawcross speak, he makes wayne rooney sound like peter ustinov. Shawcross comes across ok and if you care to listen to what he has to say then he talks some sense. He is a million times better than Raheem Sterling, who must be the thickest player in the Premier League if you listen to his interviews. If it is just nerves and inexperience then Liverpool need to get him on some media/PR training course before letting him in front of a camera again.

He needs to get a backbone and defend himself and the squad versus the southern media fairy brigade. He takes too much criticism he's a great player and should be on the England squad.

The problem is he did it in full unobstructed view of the ref, who was about 10 feet away. He can't complain.

It's a valid and very emotional point by Ryan Shawcross. He gets paid to do his job. He does it very, very well. He gets fucked for doing what cunts like John Terry, Martin Skrtel, Vincent Kompany etc do every week also. He's right, they are world class at doing what they fucking like because they play for the " bigger clubs". This shit needs to be fucking dealt with on an equal basis every fucking week for every fucking club or not at all. Michael Oliver needs to fucking man up to his bosses. Mandate it for EVERY INCIDENT, or not at all you fucking cowards. :-(

He has set a precedent now, if he spots ANY holding in the box he HAS to give a penalty.
