Sidwell can easily cover for Glenn. He'll do a job I'm sure and should see it as his chance to nail down a place.

At least we'll be able to field a midfielder that shoots, hey boskampsflaps? Maybe we will find one of those rare as hens teeth, regular scoring, defensive midfielders that will bang in double figures every season

Honestly, I'd go for Cameron if he's fit enough. Especially against Swansea's runners.

I think it will be nzonzi with Adam in steven's normal role. Sidwell has been shit, and I'd rather see Cameron or palacios playing for us. The only midfield place I think muniesa would possibly play is on the left.

I'd hardly say Sidwell was a proven defensive midfielder.

This is getting ridiculous now.
Whelan is the glue in our team

Muniesa was also taken off injured in the U21's game.

I honestly wouldn't be very comfortable with any of the options.
Is there a chance that Zonz will be asked to do the Whelan role?

Muniesa was also taken off injured in the U21's game. "People don't talk that much in the morning... Well look, I'm just delivering a tray, right? If the guest isn't singing Oh What A Beautiful Morning I don't immediately think, 'Oh there's another snuffed it in the night - another name in the Fawlty Towers Book of Remembrance'. I mean this is a hotel, not the Burma Railway. I mean it does actually say 'Hotel' outside, you know. Perhaps I should be more specific. What about 'Hotel for people who have a better than 50 per cent chance of making it through the night?'"

Is Sidwell disciplined enough to sit? He likes getting forward I thought?

think sidwell will step in and do well, he did score 10 goals for fulham from midfield..

Sidwell not a holding midfielder, in fact has been no type of midfielder for Stoke, seems totally surplus to Hughes plans.

Nzonzi as the holding midfielder maybe? Not sure if Zonz can play that role? If so, bring in Sidwell as the box to box?

Not another one, defensive midfielders whos job it is to sit and protect the back four don't regularly score goals regardless of how good their finishing is, its just not possible doing what is asked for them and scoring goals, why people use this as something to criticise Whelan with is baffling. Sidwell can score goals but not when playing as a defensive midfielder, they just don't get far enough forward to get much of a chance.

This is what I'd be doing, the best outcome I think really, and saves us risking playing with 10 men having to try someone out in a position that they can't/aren't used to playing.

Giving Nzonzi's total lack of a goal threat, then surely it would make sense for him to sit and allow Sidwell to get further forward?

So it'd be:
Bego Bardsley Huth Shawcross Pieters Nzonzi Sidwell Adam Moses (PLEASE!) Diouf (PLEASE!) Crouch
Quite like the look of that team actually.

The player in Whelan's position has to be disciplined and sit in front of the back four and plug the gaps though. That's their primary function.

When Nzonzi's been tasked with that role he hasn't given the back four any real protection.

He's done one bad tackle Dave, enough for us Stokies to write him off completely.
