Why were there 1500 empty home seats. The ticket prices were low so no excuse there. Will the club spend millions on more empty seats.

You might think the prices are low, many do not...on TV and pissing down, 1500 short of full doesn't sound that bad.

Any empty seats were season ticket holders who didn't go (usually a few in the Family Stand as it's a school night) Did you not see the huge blocks of empty seats in the away end??

Maybe the fact people work shifts and can't get the time off, plus other responsibilities like family etc. Not everyone can drop everything and head up the Brit on a Monday night. Just because it suits your situation doesn't mean it suits everyone else's.

That seems unlikely to me No, we count season ticket holders even if they don't turn up as do all clubs (check out Old Trafford and The Emirates "official" attendances compared to empty seats). The 1200 unsold tickets were clearly the huge blocks of empty seats in the away end, struggling to understand why people can't comprehend this?

Yes I did I thought 1800 away fans on a Monday night with a 400 mile round journey was a good show. And the empty home seats were still on general sale up to kick off time. So we will fill the corners in when the match is not on tele and its not raining.Or his it we only have 20000 hard core fans.I would rather see the millions it would cost to build empty seats spent on the team.

I was there last night, but I'm fairly certain that one of these days, I won't make it home from work in time. I work near Manchester, so I have to drive all the way home, to then get out to the pub to catch the bus. I've been lucky enough on occasions to genuinely walk out of the door and the bus be there at the pub, so I've caught it with seconds to spare.
Unfortunately, match days are not great for travelling. The A500 and A50 are both usually blocked (even 2 or 3 hours beforehand) and the A34 isn't much fun either.
I remember the European season being particularly difficult as I didn't miss a single European home game.

The home end was a sell out. On a Monday night. On the telly. You're complaining at what exactly?

As mentioned in previous posts you need to add into the "mixture" Younger children who are unable to come along to an evening match Supporters who have to travel a considerable distance, possibly relying on public transport - not so easy for an evening kick off Supporters who may not be able to attend due to work or other commitments If they are season ticket holders then they count in the attendance - they have purchased their seat for the game. Some fans may have preferred to stay at home and watch the game on Sky - I think it was a great turnout.

newcastle took the small allocation but the club didnt move the netting as they mostly do.
as the rain came in the newcastle fans moved up and across from the bottom rows to keep dry, poor loves
to be fair to them they were loud first 10 minutes then quietened until the odd pardew out chant.
from the southstand point of view the boothen end gets quieter and quiter every game

There's bound to be a few empty seats for a televised Monday night match when it's pissing down. All signs point to last season being a bit of a blip, attendance-wise, due to the Summer 2013 early bird sales suffering due to the football on offer in the last 6 months of the TP era. The season ticket levels are back up to around the 22000 mark they were previously and we're going to get sell-outs in pretty much every game, making the case for filling a corner as strong as ever!

The traffic again last night was awful, I wouldn't blame anyone for staying at home to watch it on the telly for that reason alone, and an 2000 kick off when you've got young kids isn't ideal either. I thought selling out last night was excellent, look at the empty seats over the weekend at the likes of Hull v Man City and West Brom v Burnley....

I always love some of the attitude of some on here:
I can afford the entrance fee. I live 5 minutes from the ground. I don't have a family who I need to look after. I don't need to work when the game is on.
...so WTF aren't you attending then?

No they weren't, the club issued early yesterday on all social media platforms that it was a sell out. Therefore no tickets available to the home support.

I misunderstood your post which seemed to imply the short fall was mad up of a combination of season ticket holders who did not show and Newcastle failing to sell their allocation. Or maybe I just didn't read it properly, it certainly referred to both

I didn't think anyone sang there in the Boothen at all. I'm not a season ticket holder and I always buy in the South Stand these days as the last hope for anything remotely approaching an atmosphere.
