Interesting that you didn't think either Muniesa or Huth did enough tonight to be worthy of a consideration but you thought Ireland did?

Huth was okay but still looks like he needs a little time to get back to speed, also Wilson hasn't been playing badly so he'd stay for me, ditto Pieters.

My point was to query what he had seen positively in Ireland's performance tonight, that made it stand out ahead of the performances of Muniesa and Huth?

Ahh fair enough, personally I'd go with Ireland too mainly because of my opinion of Adam, but he doesn't seem fully fit yet. (I realise you didn't ask me )

(I realise you didn't ask me ) We played 4-3-3 against QPR, Hughes didn't have a man playing in the 'Ireland' position (the hole) - Whelan sat in front of the centre backs and N'Zonzi and Adam played virtually side by side. In such a formation and based on tonight's performances, I'd give Sidwell or Muniesa a go replacing Adam before I'd try Ireland there.

I think he's one of our more dangerous attacking players with Arnie being so poor lately and Ireland not looking ready yet, and he has more pace than Charlie.

Fair enough, I think with that formation I'd have Diouf out wide instead and someone else in behind Crouch, gives us a good option with pace off the bench then, basically the same as your Hughes formation.

Begovic Bardsley Shawcross Huth Muniesa Nzonzi Whelan Moses Diouf Assaidi Crouch I'd like to this this team but then again we need Adam on the pitch imo, its a toss up between Adam behind Crouch with Diouf out wide or Assaidi wide with Diouf behind Crouch

Huth i still think is off the pace, Pieters has done nothing wrong to be dropped. Ireland is the best player we have playing in the whole and linking up play.

The bit I don't get is how you can say that Huth looks off the pace but Ireland doesn't? Huth put in a much better performance than Ireland last night, who I actually thought looked more off the pace than anybody.

This would be my team but I think Walters will make the bench, meaning that someone like Arnie or Assaidi could well miss out. Unless he completely drops one from Wilson, Huth or Pieters from the match day squad.

It's interesting that 2 players who have taken so much stick on this board are now nailed on starters.
Crouch and Whelan are 2 top professionals who have the intelligence, discipline and skill to make our team tick.

Bego Bardsley Ryan Huth Muniesa
Whelan N'Zonzi
Diouf Moses Assaidi
Crouch
The three behind Crouch can rotate as we see fit.
Ireland doesn't seem ready to start in the league yet and I think Moses could be excellent behind the forward.

We need to get on the front foot and score in the first half. Then Newcastle will be there for the taking. If we make it an open game then there is only one winner.

Ireland doesn't seem ready to start in the league yet and I think Moses could be excellent behind the forward. To be honest, I'd like to start Assaidi but he has to play on the left, but Moses will (and should) start there, Diouf has to play up top, but that will be Crouchie. So, if not up top, Diouf should be out wide, as he's not suited to playing 'in the hole'. That means that Assaidi can't really start at the moment without dropping someone who doesn't really deserve to be dropped.
