Yesterday we did most things right and a couple of things wrong. Whilst it was gut wrenching not to win it was a decent performance.
It simply reminds us of our failure to get even a point from two home games. We have to beat Newcastle if nothing else but to ensure that we stop the rot. I said it last week and i will say it again - we need a fully fit Stephen Ireland to deliver the swift interchangeable passing that will (and last seasons 2nd half of the years results testified) help us unlock defences utilising the pace that we possess.
He's not 'Superman' (despite what Man City fans called him) but he's the best we have at doing what he does (whatever Gareth or Angela seem to think of him). Charlie Adam is our only other creative midfielder and yesterday he showed that he often doesn't have the speed of thought (caught in possession to often) or the legs to offer up what this Stoke team needs.

I think that Hughes has been selecting players on merit.
Players on the bench / out of the team will need to do something special / take their chances when they arise.
Plenty of fans would have dropped Whelan when we made signings like Ireland, Hughes has stuck by Glenn and I think that has been the correct decision.
Players who have been injured will have to bide their time - extra opportunities will probably be available for the Cup games - although there is a balancing act between giving players a bit more time and staying in the competition.
Arnie, Huth, Muniesa , Sidwell all in this category imo

We have looked better with the old boys on the pitch. Crouch up front on his own is not going to work. It isn't his fault, he needs others around him to play off him. All this passing about at the back does nothing but allow the oppo to get sorted and defend. If we are playing Crouch we need 2 up front and wingers on the pitch.

Oh and by the way I am in the 'Arnie must play' camp too but the problem for me is that if he does then Moses needs to play on the opposite flank (undroppable for my money) so it's a straight choice between Crouch and Diouf. On that basis who should start out of those two as our main striker ?
Oh and back to Ireland - it's my belief that Bojan was signed as an alternative / upgrade to him but so far that little experiment has been something of a disaster so Ireland remains our only viable mobile creative midfielder like it or not Gareth.

Crouch, Walters and Adam. Walters ? Don't talk rubbish Walters is a superb player and our ONLY physical option. At the moment our best front 4 are; Moses, Diouf, Crouch and Walters. Such a shame Odem is going to be out for a while.

An0ther lie??? Bit like the 0ne ab0ut him leaving amicably??? He definitely left amicably with Peter Coates. As for others at the club..................... I suppose he could be watching us away from home and sitting with the home fans. And he says he is no where near retirement.

I rest my case your honour. Any hint of a problem this season and he will be back here before you can say 'baseball cap'. However, I do think all will be well and the only reason we will need a new manager is because LMH will be able to realise his ambition by joining a bigger club. In all seriousness, I couldn't see TP coming back.

N'Zonzi incident re holding his head was a clash with Mr Barton! after an earlier challenge from the QPR captain
Just as well Joey had to go off ,as there may have been fireworks yesterday
Team for Newcastle same as yesterday
Bojan. Arnie, Assaidi , Muniesa , Ireland and Sidwell to get some time on Tuesday - not necessarily to start - we need to get a result here to keep our squad competing for a place in the next round.
