Butland
Bardsley Huth Tex Muniesa Palacios Sidwell
Arnie Ireland Assaidi
Bojan
We've got a hell of a lot of depth in this squad but what's the point of having it if we're not going to use it? We also need to keep them happy which means them playing in games.

I guess Ireland and Bojan can give them a problem in the air! Tex is an interesting pick too.

Yes not exactly a team for the aerial bombardment. Obviously it's hard to know what kind of defence Sunderland will put out but if it's Brown and O'Shea, like in the league, then they're going to be much less comfortable dealing with pace and movement than with long balls.

Bowen claims it won't be a much changed team "just to give players games" - but when you look at the bloated nature of the squad, if you're not going to give players a run-out tomorrow, when are you?
Surely there'll be about 7 changes from the QPR game?

Two Premier teams out already. This is a good chance of some silverware for us. We are not playing again until Monday, so I think that we should field as strong a team as possible against Sunderland.

Surely there'll be about 7 changes from the QPR game? Im guessing we want to do well in the cups, changing the team a lot against a strong team is a big risk, fair enough against lower league teams but I'd rather keep them together, better for the league too.

We have to play them twice in a fortnight away at the stadium of shite. I can't recall the last time we won at scumderland but I would love us to do them over twice. It's asking for a miracle but we have to beat those fuckers on there patch sometime soon so let's do it twice. Go on Stoke.

Hughes should put his strongest team out. We have a nice break before the next game and we really need to have a good cup run. Agreed, that's if he knows what his strongest side is yet. The only change I'd make is I'd give Butland a run out in the cup games.

Priority is to win in 90 minutes
Another away win even after extra time would be great
(This will create the problem again for the next round if nothing else!)
Important to avoid injuries, additional bookings etc
I expect to see Bojan, Arnie, Ireland and Assaidi play a part maybe Ireland for Adam from the start
Keeping the same back 4 gives them more time to work as a unit.

Given the poor league start by both teams it's a game when the only thing that's important is no key injuries and no hint of what and how we might play in two weeks .
So for e arnie Ireland assadi tex sidwell bojan would all play and shawcross Wilson whelan nnzonzi and crouch wouldn't

Any chance of a stream for tomorrow's game? I've had a gander and not seen anything tbh, there's only normally a couple on in the earlier rounds, so far looks like its Liverpool v Middlesbrough and Arsenal v Southampton.

Just wondering, why is everyone picking Wilko in their teams? He has been miles off the pace whenever used in over a year and why not play Bardsley, who will be up for it, going back to the stadium of shite. I'd rather play Tex than Wilko at the moment.

I know it sounds bad - but if we go for a cup, let's make it the FA Cup again, obviously give everything in the League Cup, because we could still do it I guess, just look at Birmingham and Swansea winning it in recent years. Sparky needs to give game time to a few players, in a game where important PL points aren't at stake. Arnie should get a go as the centre forward. I'm sick of people slating him, when he hasn't even been played in his proper position where he did so well for FC Twente and Werder Bremen AND the Austrian national side. Also, Huthy should get a full 90 mins, he is 100% fit now, and hopefully he can put in a performance to get himself back into the team ahead of Marc Wilson, who after so many good performances is having a bit of a mare at the minute, just due to so many games one after the other. Plus, Bojan's qualities get lost out wide so I think he should play in the number 10 role... after all, dubbed the 'next Messi', he should play where Messi does, surely? So, team for later:
4-4-1-1.
Butland
Wilko, Huthy, Texeira/Ryan, Muniesa
Assaidi, Ireland, Charlie/Sidwell, Walters
Bojan (just off Arnie)
Arnie

i'd only do that if we're planning to bring Huth back into the side as Ryan's regular partner again. i have no problem with giving squad players a run out for gametime and match fitness but a CB pairing is one area you don't tinker around with IMO and there's no guarantee Huthy will be replacing Wilson
