I know it's early but what team do people think we should go with. Bearing in mind we are not playing until the Monday after I think we can name a strongish side. However I do want to see some players like Huth in the team.
Butland
Wilkinson Shawcross Huth Muniesa
Whelan N'Zonzi
Moses Diouf Assaidi
Crouch
Subs: Sorenson Tex Adam Ireland Arnie Shenton Bojan

I'd like the same team as today, except maybe Ireland instead of Adam, if he's fit.

Which is the whole point in taking part in competitive sport. I'd play a near full strength team.

Hughes should put his strongest team out. We have a nice break before the next game and we really need to have a good cup run.

A difficult call this one. A question of balancing between making a genuine attempt to win and trying something different and giving other players a chance/game time or a rest.
Stoke have still not got into their goal scoring stride this season, so finding the winning combination is important. Other factors in MH's mind will be it's 6 days to the next match against Newcastle, which is a must win, and the game could go to extra time and penalties, so players must be fit.
For me the N'Zonzi/Whelan mid-field combination is what makes Stoke tick and must start, with Sidwell on the bench to cover them. I would rest Bego, Pieters, Bardsley, and Wilson, who I would have on the bench to cover the back line. I don't see playing Bojan in a Cup match at the Stadium of Light on a Tuesday night as part of his current development. I also think MH can't "afford" to try Arni again for this one.
Crouch, Diouf, and Adam are Stoke's most likely goal scorers and I'd pick them for that and penalty taking. Talking of penalties, does Walters come back? Personally no, but I suspect MH will pick him if fit for his energy and stamina. I would give Assaidi a run out after Arni's performance on Saturday, holding Moses in reserve for this one. He looked a bit "tired" when subbed on Saturday and a Tuesday night at Sunderland may be too soon again for him, so I'd plan to use him when Assaidi tires, which I'm sure he will, rather than Arni.
Butland Cameron (if fit) or Wilko Shawcross Huth Muniesa
N'Zonzi Whelan
Diouf Adam Assaidi
Crouch
subs: Sorenson, Wilson, Sidwell, Walters, Moses, Ireland , and another, probably Wilko if Cameron fit.

I would only make about 4/5 changes, have Shenton on the bench, start Butland, Huth, Muniesa, Bojan and Assaildi, don't forget we play Newcastle on monday so plenty of rest time!

I want 11 changes tbh. The squad players deserve a chance to show what they can do.
Butland
Wilko Huth Tex Muni
Sidwell Palacios
Arnie Ireland Assaidi
Bojan
Shenton for Ireland if he isn't fit.

I totally agree - whats the point of having a squad if you aren't going to utilise them in such a situation

Normally I'd like to see a shit load of changes, but I'd use this one to iron out a couple of issues, so I'd have a really strong team out.
Butland Bardsley Muniesa Shawcross Huth Whelan N'Zonzi Ireland Diouf Crouch Moses
Butland deserves a run out, it's 50/50 between Muniesa and Pieters as first choice left back for me, so Muniesa should get a chance, and we shouldn't let the chance to reunite Huth and Ryan in a competitive match pass us by.
And the thought of Ireland linking up with the front 3 we saw yesterday is an exciting one.

The only real improvement we can register this year is by having a good run in the cups. We won't improve last year's league position so we need to field the strongest team we can.
My choice would be as follows -
Bego / Butland ( both need a start albeit for different reasons)
Cameron ( if fit, if not then bardsley - certainly not wilko coz he simply ain't good enough ) Shawcross Huth Muniesa
Assaidi Ireland Whelan Nzonzi Moses
Crouch / Diouf

Same team, same bench, bar Bojan for Adam, we know what Adam can do (and can't) and Bojan needs pitch time to get used to the league.

Maybe try and give Arnautovic a full 90 mins as well as give game time to Ireland/Bojan, apart from that I'd play our strongest team. I wouldn't mess with the defense as I feel they still haven't clicked this season so an extra game together wont harm!

I'm sure he'd love to start Bojan AND Ireland (and he almost certainly will) - but it's complicated by the fact only Crouchy can really do the job of leading the line and making things stick up top. And, ideally, he'd probably like to rest the old boy?
Back 5 kind of picks itself in terms of who he'll feel needs to get a workout:
Butland Wilko-Huth-Shawcross-Muniesa
But after that, he could go in a lot of different directions.
Sidwell will probably start. Probably N'Zonzi alongside him as he's so central to what we do.
Probably some kind of mix of Assaidi, Arnie, Bojan and Ireland as the front 4, but can't see him sticking Bojan up top so maybe one of 'em will miss out to accommodate Crouchy.
