Is it really necessary to have been at the match to participate in these threads? Isn't watching on telly enough to make an informed assessment? Just wondering like. EDIT: my apologies, now realise I've been reading that *if you were there* line wrong all along. Apologies here too, I need to remember to say 'add' It dates back years, there was a loon on the old board called Bring Back Muggleton (hiya BBM if you're reading this) who spemt his life claiming to have been at the match when he obviously hadn't (also he claimed to be black when he wasn't) - so when I took this thread over when Mystical Descent semi-retired, I came up with the * idea, because you do see a different game sometimes, other times you get it better ona stream anyway... Agree - to be there is still different to watching on the telly - both give different perspectives, equally valid

8 for me. Again just missing fucking chances. Manager can't make them go in.

5. Game was there to be won. The arrogance amongst some of our players worries me. I genuinely thought we could have gone up another gear of needed but we believed we didn't need to. The manager needs to knock that out of them.

7. the right starting lineup, not necessarily the right subs. I don't think Arnie brought much to the game. Unless he was just resting Moses which is possible. Maybe Assaidi should have been on the bench instead. a lot more of an attacking threat today just need to work on actually knocking them in. I think with work we'll have a very good side like last season. Moses had cramp. Hughes was right to replace him - its all to easy to pull a calf muscle if you play on with cramp. EDIT: Assaidi was on the bench. Ah right cheers, I missed some of the match due to the mrs so didn't find out why he went off.

8, right team and sensible subs given the situation. Not much Hughes can do about players not taking their chances other than shooting practice, we could work on defending set pieces as we seem to be poor at this - we are more dangerous than ever going forward though until it comes to shooting. We completely dominated the game and with a bit of luck we'd have won by a few goals.

6.5 wrong subs IMO Moses was ripping their defence apart and Adam was playing well, Sidwell cost us 2 points and I'm sure if there was longer to play he'd have seen red. Gouranga.

Moses had cramp - you can argue that a different sub should have come on but I don't think you can argue that he should have stayed on.

8 from me (watched on TV)
MH picked a team well capable of winning, but the players let him down. They missed scoring chances, let in a silly goal, gave away a free kick in a dangerous position, and I think Bego got caught out by QPR taking the free quick both quickly and brilliantly, but they did score twice away from home.
Subs seemed sound to me, both players were tiring and/or he wanted to save Moses for "next week". I also suspect he wanted to give Arni and Sidwell a run out. Assaidi may have been a better option than Arni in hindsight, but Arni is such a huge potential talent MH has to get him back to his best form.
Sidwell and Crouch were guilty of trying to help when they would have been better leaving well alone to others. You may blame them for contributing to the QPR goals, but I think Crouch had a great match and Sidwell impressed me when he came on.
I must add I love MH style of management. He is giving players a chance to show what they can do (Adam, Arni, Sidwell yesterday) but basically maintaining a stable side that is keeping the goals against column down. He obviously needs his players to start scoring. IMO Crouch, Diouf, and Moses are a very good trio offering a wide range of different talents. I'm sure he is right to persist with them and find the combination and formation with either Adam, Bojan, or Ireland that works best, but whatever it is, MH can't make them score goals, that's down to the players. I suspect he would like the 4th man to be Bojan, but he is using him sparingly whilst he gets used to Prem. playing conditions and builds confidence. Yesterday MH may have thought it wise to keep him away from Barton.

5 For the most woeful substitution ever. Fucking sidwell ffs The worse signing for Stoke in many a year. It wasn't broken and then he broke it. His bench tactics need some serious work. what a moby

6 for me, I am not in favour of making changes when the 11 on the pitch are playing well and looking comfortable, didn't look to me that either Victor or Charlie were struggling, both had been high up the pitch and keeping their defence on their toes moments before being taken off. Were you at the game? The reason I ask is that if you were you're comments can be excused to some degree but if you watched on TV it was clear to see why Adam and Moses came off.

8*
Our lack of finishing prowess cost us again but the manager's tactics weren't at fault.
I find it best to give this score the following morning as I, too, probably would have scored a 5/6 based on how I felt about the "team's" performance when getting home.

My only reservation remains on hughes' failure to put on Assaidi in the second half to talk on that sorry excuse for a footballer who goes by the name of Armand Traore. Traore was already on a yellow card and Assaidi could have ripped a second hole up his arse. He was there for the slaughter. Now I may not be the new Mourinho as someone has suggested on this thread with more than a pinch of sarcasm but for me that was an obvious decision. Battles have been lost and won on the strength of certain choices which one makes, such as the topography of the battlefield on which you choose to engage your enemy, attacking the weakest flank etc. For me yesterday Traore was ripe for the slaughter and Assaidi with his undoubted abilities in one-on-one situations (he is, in my opinion, one of the top 3 players in the Prem in this regards) would have certainly put him to the sword.
