Great. Hope ireland does play. Just need get him back to match fit and we have a great player in my opinion. Someone who has the ability to pop up from midfield into the box.
guess who in the premier league has had the most shots off target so far. Yes, us with 52. Step forward whelan and nzonzi. Every time the ball drops to them on the edge of the box you have to duck by the corner flag. Seriously couldn't shoot their load them pair. Not their strong point. Bound to score tomorrow now.

Looks like the only debates are going to be over one of the wingers, and the potential absence of Walters and Arnie could give Assaidi a free run?
.....and who from Diouf/Ireland/Bojan plays behind Crouch?
You'd think it'd almost certainly be Diouf if we try and re-create the Man City template?
Begovic
Bardsley-Shawcross-Wilson-Pieters
Whelan-Nzonzi
Walters/Arnie/Assaidi -Diouf/Bojan/Ireland-Moses
Crouch

Arnie really needs to play. He's been dropped for two games now, he's got the message. Unless he's injured he needs to start tomorrow.

Ireland does like to get in the box. Offers something different. Links play and keeps us moving. Get the feeling hughes does as well.

I tihkn we need to recreate, as close as possible, the front four that worked so well together at the back end of last season. Just put Victor in place of Wingy - so we have Moses and Arnie wide, and Ireland behind Crouch, with Diouf and Ossie ready to come on against tiring legs after an hour.
I hope Arnie is fit and has got the message from two games on the bench that he can't just coast along. He is a major talent, but even good players must work hard.

If Adam didn't get on last week, it's almost inconceivable that he will start this week. If Ireland is anywhere near fit you'd imagine he'll be straight back in. He loves him.

Met Ireland last week at work said he was back in training and was hopping to feature again soon. Also said he's enjoying his football again and loves stoke, to be fair he wasn't going to say anything else was he?. Hope he starts tomorrow with Moses, arnie and diouf. Now that's a powerful attacking 4 with whelan and nzonzi sitting behind them to control the play.

Nothing more than that and the best we would have got had we continued playing like that was a 0-0. For me, we need to win today so that means no Walters or certainly not in the same team as Crouch.

Forwards that don't score goals is a peculiar modern football approach - not one I am comfortable with.

It funny
I have no particular love for Stephen Ireland nor dislike of John Walters but the fact is that Ireland was a key player in our end of season 'revival' last year. John Walters has also been key in certain types of game, in particular the top clubs away from home but rarely / never gets played in his best position (ie just behind the main striker) due to Crouch occupying the main role and therefore together being too immobile.
Ireland has been at his best at home when occupying a similar position thus I see both remain important cogs in the Stoke City wheel. Ireland was criticised for his poor showing at home to Villa but his rib injury was picked up relatively early on in that game when Villa 'did a job' on him.

Generally away I like the idea of pace so Diouf,Moses,Assaidi would be great but QPR are a side we will not be playing on the break so much so Crouch should play today.

Crouch OR Walters is fine but never both together. Whatever qualities each of them have they are all totally negated when they play in the same team. I said it last season and I stand by it now...if Walters and Crouch, are regular starters together, our battle will be one that takes place at the wrong end of the table.

Playing on the counter seems to be working for many away teams this season. QPR will see this as a must win and will be coming at us so sit back, defend well then hit them on the break with pace. Rio Ferdinand and Clint Hill could really struggle with the pace of Moses and Diouf.
