I like to think it's something to do with Souleyman Oulare's arse. Perhaps he sucked it away from the goal from his seat in the dugout, with an inverted fart. |

What a great night. Especially considering that ,at the time, I had just moved down that way and I had to put up with stick from all the Scumdiff fans who crawled out of the woodwork in the days leading up to the 2nd leg at my new school (I was 11 at the time and I never felt prouder than when I wore my stoke shirt into school the next day, I got a detention but did I give a fuck)

A super little player for us who was inexplicably booed on his return to the Brit with Burnley whilst that Wanker Akinbiyi was cheered to the rafters.
That game at Cardiff was one of only a few games I missed in 15 years or me as I had a long standing holiday, payed for by some friends who were 50 at the same time as it being their 30th wedding anniversary.
It was the night of the Champions League final and I sat up at about 4am in the morning watching that and just waiting for my pals to ring me with updates.
I had a text to say injury time was underway and that was it. As I trundled over to the lift I got a phone call and all I could here was my pals going nuts.
The poor bloke manning the lift hadn't a clue what was happening as I had a mental myself and picked him up.
I then returned to my seat in reception until I got the call for our winning goal upon which I ran round reception hugging the 2 staff that were still working.
They must wonder to this day what the fuck was going on!

Great read that brought back the memories....shame he became a boo boy by some of the crowd later on before he left....I was living in Cardiff when we played them, and managed to get a ticket in the home end that night...Talk about trying to hold your excitement in when those goals went it, I was killing myself with all the hatred surrounding me on the terraces. Laugh of the night was in injury time when Stoke were holding the ball in the corner in injury time....Some valley boy was shouting abuse at Gunnarson calling him an 'English prick" lol...Sums them up really....Great night, up there with one of the best.

Kavanagh was undoubtedly more of a natural talent but, to be fair, the pair of them share a similar goal scoring record for us (which some fans might find surprising). JOC has a reputation of doing the dirty work, allowing Kav to get forward and score goals, but O'Connor himself scored quite a few. The 1999/2000 + 2000/2001 seasons were Kavanaghs last two at the club, and also JOC's first full seasons in the first team. They both scored 18 goals over those two campaigns - absolutely nothing to split them in terms of goals scored. O'Connor actually outscored Kav in his last season before moving to Cardiff (breaking into double figures in all competitions). Admittedly, his goal ratio dropped off for the subsequent two seasons, after Kav left; but when they formed that partnership in the middle of the park, they were both equally "prolific" |

Liked o'Connor a lot. There weren't to many rays of hope bk in those days but he was certainly someone the fans could believe in. The lad wrkd his bolloxs off and ran through brick walls for us.
One of my favourite games was the Wigan away game jst after Stan had died. The atmosphere. The tension. And I know it sounds daft but the trouble in that game really made the game. If my memory serves me right both kav and o'Connor scored that game. And the midfield battle between our 2 and I think it was John Sheridan In there midfield.
Also remember James having a very good game against Sean Greegan of Preston one Friday night. A battle o the last. Think frode kippe scored a screamer for us.

I've watched about 6/7 of their games, they play some good footy for a newly formed team. They didn't long to gel at all and Matt Fondy is a beast for that level.
