The Bundesliga might disagree - and with some reason after the head to head games over the past 48 hours;
Bayern Munich 2 Man Citeh 0 Chelsea 1 Schalke 1 Dortmund 2 Arsenal 0

First of all Bayern won 1 0 a goal in the 89th minute at home, second let's see how the return fixtures pan out, I fancy Chelsea to beat Schalke away, thirdly I would say the Premiership has the most competitive league in the World, but not the greatest top two or three teams.

I maybe should have made my views clear. I'm not saying any league is better than another. The idea of "the greatest league in the world" does my head in. It's just sky glorifying it's "product", it's marketing, spin, promotion. In short it is (in my opinion) bollocks. I'm highlighting this week's games as evidence of that. So I don't really care how the return fixtures work out. It's not important.

Sorry didn't read between the lines, thought you were making a direct comparison between the two leagues

For entertainment it probably is. Anyone can beat anyone in the prem, it's rare the lower teams in Spain Germany or Italy do anything against the top 6 or 8 so in that respect I think it is the best. As for the top teams theirs are probably miles better than ours

They did a study on this and there's very little difference in terms of the top leagues on goals scored and one other parameter to do with points that I forget, if that's the main judge of entertainment. So in short, yes, it's bollocks. Though it's cyclical and I believe this season the top English clubs are stronger than they have been for the past few.
That said, I don't think one of them will win the Champions League unless they resort to parking the bus in the way that they belittle the smaller teams in the Premier League for doing against them occasionally.
So, ultimately, what people are saying when they say 'Premier League: Greatest in the World' is that it is the most entertaining and competitive? I don't buy it.

I've just checked and it covers all main parameters: goals scored, corners per game, shots on target, penalties etc.
The numbers were incredibly similar across the four major leagues. So if they're saying a league in which the Top 7 picks itself every season is the most competitive league, then fuck me.

Its all a load of bollocks and the problem is that so many people say it in such a matter-of-fact way that everyone believes it to be true. Sky championing the Premier League and its viewers lapping it up as gospel is very tedious.
This weekend, AC Milan beat Parma away from home 5-4 and the game also saw 2 red cards. I wonder if the Italians were saying that Serie A is the greatest in the world on the back of that result. Doubt it.
As for those saying the PL is the most competitive and anybody can beat anybody else then i'm sorry you can say that of all the leagues in Europe. And the Premier League is greater because a number of teams have a chance of winning it?? There have been just 3 different winners out of the last 10 seasons, or 4 out of the last 19. Hardly.
The only way the Premier League is the greatest in the world is the way in which it is marketed and sold as a 'product'. You only have to look at the size of the TV deal to confirm that...

You can't make a comparison based on 2 or 3 games.
You can't also use this weeks fixtures as evidence and then disregard whatever the return results will yield.
Play the top 16 of one league v the top 16 of another (based on last seasons finishing positions) and then see how it pans out.
IMO, the Premier League is the best league overall due to its competitiveness. Whereas most leagues have 2 or 3 teams max battling it out for top spot. We have minimum 3.

There is no such thing as the 'best league in the world'. The notion is just a glib soundbite created by soulless marketing executives.

It's like saying a type of music is the best. Or a style of food. Much of it comes down to personal taste.

There is no such thing as the 'best league in the world'. The notion is just a glib soundbite created by soulless marketing executives. IMO..and for me personally, the Premier League is the best league in the world in terms of entertainment. Just as I believe Ronaldo is the best player in the world, Football is the best sport in the world, Doggy style is the best sexual position in the world and Stoke City is the best club in the world. None of these may be true and cannot be definitively proven. But in my opinion they are. Saying that, I understand your point in that there is no way to prove which league is 'best' and so the term in this case is used loosely and based on facts selected to suit the marketing agenda - Premier League - most money, biggest global audience, biggest global fan base, most competitive, least predictable. The Bundesliga will argue that it has the highest average attendances, offers best value for money, has the Champions League winning side and most of the German World Cup winning national players. The club sides have also performed especially well in Europe over the past few years. La Liga, well, La Liga is based mainly on having 2 powerhouse clubs. One credited with being the most decorated club in European football and acquiring the best players in world football (Galacticos), and the other with having the best youth development program, football philosophy, and best player in football history (not Suarez). They also have a massive mother fucking stadium. Oh, and there's also Atletico Madrid which has dispelled the notion of the league being only a two horse race.

I doubt schalke will, iam still doubtful that Dortmund can still be a major power without lewandowski.

It's hard to compare when you're just looking at individual results.
England has at least 15 teams that are consistent with each other in terms of personnel. There is not a lot of difference at all.
On that basis, I would say England has the 'best' league.
Do we have the best 'top sides'? That's a different question and the answer for me is probably not.
