www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Stoke-City-and-Derby-County-Autographs-from-1936-37-/181530408524?Trying to sell a rare set of autographs from 1936/37 on ebay for anybody interested. The Stoke autographs include all on the same sheet Sir Stanley Matthews and Fred Steele. Since I got them from my granddad what must be 20 years ago, they've been sitting in a frame on show in my room, but times move on, I'm moving on and its now time to let somebody else have the opportunity to own them and do something more useful with them - for the right price though as I'm wanting to raise a few funds to go towards taking the lady to New York for Christmas. I was offered far more than the starting price around 6 years ago, but the time wasn't right for me to let them go back then and I don't regret turning that offer down back then.

Im sure theres a lot of shit that sells for more money than you and i think they are worth, but I'll be happy if they dont go on ebay as they'll be sold for more than the start price if they dont. Win win situation for me... So probably a good job i didnt seek your advice first!

Have to agree with Morningmist that your starting price is way too ambitious. I'd be amazed if you get any bids at all. To put it into context, you'd probably get a set of Beatles autographs for that, which have worldwide appeal, whereas yours have a pretty limited audience. If you personally value them that highly, I think you're best hanging on to them. Good luck anyway.

If it's one thing I learned from watching day time tv it's to start low(ish) and cover your arse with a decent reserve.

I think you'll do well to get to New Brighton but good luck anyway.

I'm not looking for worldwide appeal, and not looking for the ego of having hundreds of people in a bidding war - I'm looking for the best value I can get from a small set of collectors. The person not from ebay isn't interested in Stoke, Derby or football in general, but just in items between 1935 and 1939. The Beatles, for example, also have sets of autographs that go for several thousand pounds too - and there are plenty of autographs out there too. I'm comfortable enough with it, don't need to drop the price to broaden the appeal and that approach has been justified. They might not sell on ebay, no, but its no different to Burberry for example selling coats for £1,800 that most of us probably wouldn't buy for that kind of price. But, enough people do see the value and worth of them and do buy them. I don't need to get my family to put false bids on to start things off, I don't even need any bids at all on ebay. I'm extremely satisfied with this all, and I've been fully justified with it too. I'd have been mortified to have sold them at the £40-60 that was previously suggested, to then get the offer that I have done.
