Been treated for testicular cancer. Get well soon! Poor form from Newcastle if the article is true linkI'm not sure what to make of the Newcastle reaction as outlined in the article. On the face of it, you'd have to say that, not only is it poor form rom Newcastle - but probably illegal under employment law. I hesitate to point the finger, as something may have been lost in translation. If it is as he has described, he should get the PFA to fight his case.

As far as I can gather, he has a contract at Newcastle until next summer, though he has a clause in it which automatically triggers an extension which would keep him there longer if he made a certain amount of appearances.
Newcastle obviously didn't want to trigger that clause so he was frozen out and loaned to Norwich and then told he could leave the club this summer.
If he does have another twelve months left then he can't be shown door without being compensated.
He's obviously got more important challenges going on in his life at the moment though, let's hope he gets through them.

Hope he makes a full recovery soon.
As for the story and Newcastle's actions, it should perhaps be treated with caution as it's in a Sunderland paper. I suspect it's a google-translate version lifted from Argentine press. He might have meant "even though I was contracted to return to Newcastle I elected to stay in Argentina for surgery. When I did return, Newcastle said I should go and complete my treatment". Or it could mean "Newcastle washed their hands of me when they learned I was ill". It doesn't say what Newcastle knew or when, or what really happened. Maybe Newcastle paid his contract off?
Still, it's a loathsome club with an unpleasant owner so it would be no surprise if they did just try to wriggle out of their moral and/or legal obligations....

Just seen a Pardew interview about it on BBC Look North News and it doesn't sound as if Newcastle have washed their hands of him. Pardew says they look forward to having him back once he has made a full recovery. There doesn't seem to be any questioning of Newcastle's commitment I wonder if something got lost in the translation of the original article in the Argentine press?
