If one scores a superb volley does that make one gifted then?. You obviously haven't watched it then. It wasn't A superb volley it was superb VOLLEY'S. Manchester United, Chelsea, Barcelona, Bayern Munich. Doesn't scream mediocre to me. He's here.

If one scores a superb volley does that make one gifted then?. He's scored loads of them mate. Scissor kick vs Man City. Volley for Wales. Semi final volley vs Oldham. All utter stunners. His CWC final goal wasn't a volley but it was a beautiful finish from a right angle. Crouch has scored a few in his tine too so would Crouch be classed as gifted?.

I am not sure why you would post any of that? The former Manchester Utd, Chelsea, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, etc. etc. striker playing 606 top flight games and 72 internationals, winning 13 trophies (possibly more) and voted PFA player of the year, was 'not the most gifted of players'???? Yet you recall he knew how to get results playing for Man Utd when they played lesser teams??? Then you claim as a manger he isn't able to beat lesser teams??? I'm sure he managed on many occasions when manager of Blackburn, Man City and Fulham to beat 'leseer teams', but at Stoke alone, he has overseen victories over the likes of Aston Villa, Fulham, WBA, Crystal Palace, Sunderland, West Ham, Hull and Newcastle. Are you a little confused as to the meaning 'gifted'. So, I guess by your meaning of the word gifted then you would put him in the same bracket as an Eric Cantana or even a Ricardo Fuller?. I class gifted players as players that can do the unexpected. Like adjusting your body in mid air to clatter a scissor kick in off the bar? Or reacting in a fraction of a second to strike one precisely over the keeper in the last minute? Don't think you have to be able to run past five defenders to be classed as gifted Taz.

You've lost me now Taz. I'll leave you with a reiteration of my point. There is an absolute stack of evidence that suggests that at his peak Mark Hughes was a world class centre forward. That is all.

I've seen supposed Mediocre players score great volleys 'not that Mark Hughes was' and neither in my opinion would I say he was gifted as a player either. I class gifted as exciting, someone that gets bums off seats as soon as the ball is on it's way to them. I never meant to rubbish Mark Hughes's abilities as a player and neither do I believe it came across as that but apologise if it did. He was a good player who knew his abilities as a player and the ammount of hard work it took to keep him there.

I think he's referring to Peter Crouch.... As his typed words of 'Mark Hughes' would testify that he did indeed mean Peter Crouch. Mind you though I have been known to be wrong on several occasions.

There's some stupid bloody revisionism and hindsight talking going on here. Up until their goal it looked it was simply a matter of time until we took the lead. After the goal we lost our heads a bit, it went a bit Crouch-hoofy as they defended their lead and our crossing left a lot to be desired. Just one of those games really. Fergeddaboudit.
