0. Hughes had an absolute shocker. Wrong starting xi and wrong subs at the wrong time. We are at home to Leicester and starting Walters on the wing! Baffling. How the fuck he left Arnie and Adam on the bench for 95 minutes il never know. He's had a shocker today and doesn't have a clue who his best xi is. I'm a Hughes fan but his tactics in 3 out of our 4 opening games have been utterly hapless. what he said!!!!! Bullseye!

What are he and his team doing during the week with regard set-pieces ???? There are quite a lot of them during the average game but we are uniformly crap at every aspect. All very 'old school' I know but hard work on these issues produces results - or are we above that sort of thing these days??

4. I liked the lineup, but if the other team makes adjustments he has to recognize what is happening and counteract what they are trying to do. We have dropped points in all three games where we've dominated possession, and yet we are not getting into positions to put shots on target. With the talent we've added this summer there's no reason we shouldn't still be getting three points from home games like this. Hughes isn't entirely to blame today, but for me he deserves the largest share for a performance where despite our dominance in the first half, we never looked like we would score.

*4 Shocking decision to start with Walters at home given he knew they would sit back
Yet again bizarre and too late subs and wrong
It is as though he has forgot what he learned last season

5. Contrary to popular belief, Mark and his team are risk averse and hugely cautious.

I'm not good at stuff like that so i won't give a mark to mark. Vat about zee marks? The one thing that does frustrate me about Mr. Hughes is his substitutions, bugged me on occasions last season and i don't know if i'm in a minority here but i feel we really needed a substitution BEFORE Villa scored. 55 minutes or summat, Leicester had a good spell and it clearly wasn't working for us in an attacking sense and bringing on Arnautovic or maybe Adam to give us a lift was called for. Instead, he waits until the bloody 75th minute to make his first substitution! It had me a little bit miffed, i don't mind telling you! I agree about the subs. I had no problem with the starting 11 but it was clear by half time that we needed to change things. I thought Pieters didn't look fit by half time and I'd have had Muniesa on long before Pieters HAD to go off. I'd also have brought Arnie on either at half time or very soon afterwards - he had a poor start to the season but had a decent International break and the game was crying out for the inventiveness he can bring. I'd have brought him on for Walters, played him on the left and moved Moses to the right. Finally, I can see why Diouf didn't start but he looked lively when he came on and I think he could have managed 30 minutes. 6* from me.

Team was ok as you could understand the thinking after the last win (I'd have started with Arnie over Jon though).
Subs came way too late for me though.

7 for me, we knew what the problem was, we had plenty of shots, corners and opportunities. Had the players had the same urgency with which they finished the game earlier, we may have had a result. Exactly right. 9 for the first half: right team, totally dominated, only thing missing was the players not scoring, which isn't Hughe's fault. 5 for the second half. Stuck too long with a team/system that was not producing results. Should have tried a more different things, like Moses on the right. The substitutions were ineffective. To be fair to Leicester they were pretty crap in the first half, but changed format and made a much better performance in the second half. MH was out-foxed in the second half, but overall it was his players let him down today by poor finishing.

5 from me.
Not being able to move away from plan A was something levelled at the previous manager, but this was exactly the issue yesterday. Why we continued to play the ball across the front of a 7 man defense when it clearly wasn't working I'll never understand.
It seemed clear to me by half time that we needed to get behind their defense, instead of taking luck-dip pot-shots from yards out. Hughes didn't manage to significantly change this at all. Poor day at the office, but some of the agenda driven nonsense on this MB over the last 16 hours has been pathetic.
When did we become the kind of fans who felt they "deserved" to beat sides? Thr kind of supporters we have always hated? This morning I've seen a Hughes out comment from someone, who reckons losing to two "relegation" certainties at home means Hughes should be removed. Didn't villa beet Liverpool yesterday.? Get a bloody grip.

We dominated the game, we created clear opportunities which had they gone in we would have won easily, and be talking of what a great win it was. I think a 6 is fair, we looked comfortable most of the game and got caught with a sucker punch.

5 from me. We seemed to end up with the team we should have started with. Subs made too late again.

Just 2 of those umpteen chances today go in and he's a 10 and everybody's hero. Nobody likes losing but the shit spouted after a defeat is frankly laughable... Completely agree with that, but he messed up playing Walters and Crouch. We have a good squad nowadays and those two will be useful in certain games, mainly against the top clubs, but certainly not in any home game where we are favourites and expected to dominate play. 7 for me. One point deducted for playing Walters, one for playing Crouch, and one for not hauling them off sooner.

If the lazy arses made their way to the box he may have had someone to lay the ball to after fantastic control to win the fucker. I felt sorry for Crouch on Sat. He needs more support!

Not for me, Stafford. I thought he was ponderous, wasteful, weak and slow - and I say that as someone who is generally a fan of his. Like I said, in certain games he should play, but not in games like Saturday, it's the same with Walters.
