Galaxian I liked.
Was it called Asteroids or summat, the boring black and white rock blasting thing, never got into that.

Nothing beats Taito's Space Invaders for me. An absolute classic. The remake from 1999 was good on PS1 too. Modern Arcade wise, Sega Rally is a classic too. As Salop also mentioned above, Mame32 is great to emulate the old arcade games. Better than emulating the home ports.

Galaxian fan here too but my favourite was always this beauty.
Beautiful in its simplicity. Fantastic ease in/out and gorgeous motion. Best sounds ever, super sharp monochrome.

The MIGHTY Williams Defender....addicted to this bad boy I was... Any more for anymore...? There was even an acid house tune by Stakker (who went on to become TFSOL) using the "Humanoid" and "Intruder Alert" samples and blips & bleeps from the game. The samples starts at about 1:10. Always like the song too. Dutch will be jumping around in his pants and socks when he hears this.

Yes space invaders, got a version that goes into the PC ( with a Joy stick as well ...no buttons !) haven't played it in years though

Here are a couple of examples of the more modern Space Invaders soundtrack - (This little bastard level would annoy even the most resolute of gamers)

Galaxian was great. Didn't they used to have one in the old ABC foyer up 'anley duck? View AttachmentShipperley's in Tunstall for me. There was a 'cheat' if you concentrated your aim on the right hand side {a bit like MH early last season}, to earn millions of points. I walked away to the Town Hall friday night disco with Galaxian groupies on me arm, while the dullards stayed in the arcade blasting rocks. Montgolfier Brothers in the Bulls Vaults {quiz/shooter hybrid/with actual prize money} was the best arcade game ever. Funded many a night out that fucker.

Tell you what, you had to be really good to get that game rocking. God knows, I tried and failed many times.
Watching a real player kicking ass on Defender was quite something. Too many buttons, way too fast for me.
The game itself could draw small groups of observers like no other.
